I grew up in the 70s and 80s. Two of my high school teachers were DDay vets, one was in a wheelchair from the bullet he took. My next door neighbor was a B29 navigator over Japan. I had many relatives who fought in the war and a few who remembered WW1 from their childhoods. That's all gone now.
Memory of the Second World War and genocidal Nazi crimes is now as distant to Zoomers as memory of trenches at the Somme and Verdun was to my Xennial generation born in the late 1970s and 1980s.

The float was for a Catholic school, and to their credit the church immediately disavowed it.
Thing is, I don’t think high school kids did this entirely on their own. I’m guessing parents had to be involved.

In fairness, we only see Matt Decker after he is psychologically destroyed by the loss of his crew. Subsequent information from the recent shows indicate that he commanded Constellation for 20 years and was highly decorated. Hard to see him as a bad captain with that record; he was ruined by PTSD.
Why is Kirk a better captain than Commodore Decker, Captain Garth, Captain Tracy, etc? Because he uses his mind and doesn't resort to foolish action at the earliest difficulty

Every Confederate statue should be replaced with statues of Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, John Brown, or monuments to the soldiers of the United States Colored Troops.
We need to FINISH Reconstruction. We need to melt down every fucking statue of every Confederate General, we need to rename every street and school and public institution named after a Confederate general or politician after William T. Sherman and blast Stone Mountain clean.

I was raised Christian, am now a vague theist/deist of some kind, and these Christian fascist speakers make me want to scream "blasphemers" and imagine the lake of fire in which these heretics will burn.

I don't think there will be any way to verify this, but it is possible that RFKjr's attempt to sow doubt about the covid vaccine will actually INCREASE uptake this fall. I've heard a few people talking about getting the vax ASAP who haven't had boosters in two or three years.

I know the GOP tried to backload the cuts but they will hit sooner than they think. Hospitals and nursing homes have to do budget projections years in advance. Ones that know they can't survive the cuts will start closing down before the midterms.

When I wrote my novel a few years ago, I did a lot of research about the lead up to the Civil War, notably the Fugitive Slave Act, the Dred Scott decision, and how they tore the Union apart. Let us say there are disturbing parallels to today.
