When I teach ethics I make a distinction between ethics proper and etiquette. 'Propriety' or a perceived sense of goodness still reigns for a lot of people over actually doing what is morally right. In other words, some value etiquette over ethics.

And I turn into this legendary vine in class
a boy wearing glasses and a red shirt is standing in a room with the words " when " on the bottom
Alt: a boy wearing glasses and a red shirt is standing in a room screaming "When will you learn that your actions have consequences?"

When it comes to hoodies, I swear by the classic from American Giant.

My dad was a welder and had all these old champion hoodies that were built like a tank but have 1000 holes from sparks in them so I don’t have them. The AG classic feels like those and the difference is truly significant
Let me show you the difference between a $40 hoodie and a ~$100 hoodie. 🧵

Imperial star destroyer with cloaking tech has officers choose to defect and it’s all cat and mouse…I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a Clone Wars episode, tbh
what star wars really need is a HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER style submarine thriller

Deadwood-heads, get ready for some grimy 19th century wonder

Some 19th century things are cool like Kierkegaard, everybody wearing vests, Marx in the newspaper, abolition democracy...let's leave the other super dumb stuff (miasma theory, no women's vote, phrenology, etc.) back there please.

Anyone remember The People's Republic in Cambridge? Seems like an idea that might be worth reviving (I say as a person who does not live in Cambridge and looks at it jealously while Lionel Ritchie's "Hello" plays softly in the background.)

I was on a train that caught fire just now as we were trying to pull into Worcester station and we ended up stuck 2 miles out.

On the one hand, too on the nose.

On the other, let’s hear it for safety protocols working and a stellar crew who kept everyone safe.

I'm convinced a good number of the commentariat are formerly front-row philosophy kids who got tired of having their perpetually raised hand ignored so others could participate so they went and forced themselves into everyones business as a job.

Yes you did the reading. Good for you. Do it again.

They're calling him the most French man in history
A French cyclist survived for three days after a horrendous 130-foot fall into a ravine, kept alive by the bottles of red wine he had in his shopping bag, police said.

Charity is good.
Justice is required.

The immediate response to hungry people is to feed them now. The long term response is to stop the situation of hunger.

Give to food access farms & food banks now. But most importantly, force the Trump administration to reopen the government & restore SNAP

I cannot co-sign this quickly or loudly enough.

Real America is a packed train delayed by 5 minutes.
i think if you ride public transit enough you learn that most weird behavior is not dangerous, and conversely i think driving a car teaches you that everyone is trying to kill you at all times
