ChatGPT gave a significant portion of my students the wrong answer to an easy quiz question that everyone used to always get right

I had two groups of students turn in annotated bibliographies that were ChatGPT generated - not a single citation actually existed

I heard from a bunch of federal employees last night and this morning. They aren't happy.

"I would rather be an actual pawn. At least pawn sacrifices are calculated and achieve something. All this for a fucking meaningless vote."

Call a Senator that voted no tonight and demand that they vote to remove Chuck Schumer as Senate Minority Leader.

He has weaponized his incompetence against the American people by allowing 8 Dem Senators to cave to an authoritarian regime. We need real leadership, not the oligarchy’s lapdog
Schumer can be removed from his Dem leadership role this week - 23 Dems (and/or independents) just have to vote to depose him

And they should, given this is his fault.
This is a lovely sentiment but Schumer isn't up for re-election until 2028 and he knows this. At which point he will be 77/78. There's no mechanism to recall a sitting senator AFAIK.

I hate Chicago weather, and whatever climate change is doing to it

I went for a hike on Thursday and it was beautiful, sunny, and in the low 60s

I woke up to light snow this morning, a windchill of 21, and a winter storm warning for tonight - up to 18 inches

And then back to 60s by Saturday

One of the things I learned teaching search literacy is that search sucks because the world wide web doesn't exist anymore. The blogs that held it together with links are paywalled, big publishers paywall and don't link, the platforms users post to don't link. You're left with reddit and Wikipedia.
I need accounts like this to actually link to the story they’re citing. If I have the right link, this strikes me as an overstatement.

Just waiting for that bubble to poppety pop pop
Based on analysis of years of revenues, losses and funding, since 2023, OpenAI has taken in $28.6bn in cash and had $13.7bn in losses.

However, reports say OpenAI ended 1H 2025 with $9.6bn in cash - suggesting OpenAI's losses are billions higher than reported.

If you made $1 million per year, it would take you 275 years - 3.5 lifetimes - to earn what Elon Musk would make in a SINGLE DAY*

If you made $100,000 per year, it would take 2,750 years - 34 lifetimes - to match Musk's daily compensation

* if all the compensation package requirements are met
Elon Musk could earn up to $1 trillion if Tesla hits ambitious goals, more than the GDP of Switzerland or Poland. Critics, including Bernie Sanders and Pope Leo XIV, call the deal “obscene.”

Meanwhile, Watson won a Nobel off that work & survived to the ripe old age of 97 by simply: stealing those notes!

Another tragic loss. How many more before we take substantive action?

Many universities have agreements with OpenAI and offer free accounts to students. There are programs and courses requiring ChatGPT, or other LLM use. All while reports of AI psychosis are growing

Are universities not liable?
1.This is not the only known example we know of ChatGPT cheering on a vulnerable young person to die by suicide, this time it is a recent Texas A&M grad
2. Every single university that has invited OpenAI into our midst should be asked to account for their choices.

We need to demand more of our elected officials

We don't have to settle for politicians who fund genocides & throw trans folks under the bus whenever it's convenient

We don't need to bide our time and wait till things are "safe" - letting the Overton window slide further & further to the right

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I find the MAGA numbers somewhat relieving.

Not even half of Trump’s voters seem to believe in replacement theory. That’s a lot lower than I imagined.

Love how regular folks in Chicago are organizing to keep their neighbors safe

I drove Plume to the vet this morning & when I went through an industrial area, there were people stationed on corners watching with their whistles ready. And know-your-rights yard signs are all over the neighborhoods

What a shellacking!

Taxing the rich, rebuilding our tattered social safety net, prioritizing everyday people over elites - it's all terribly popular, and it wins elections

If Dem leadership want to fix their popularity issue, they'll embrace Mamdani and his policies. Corporations can't vote
With the race called for Zohran, lets check in on how its going, the only borough Cuomo won a majority in is Staten Island. Mamdani won everywhere else

Now in Judge Gettleman's courtroom in Chicago, waiting for the morning hearing on this case - which alleges the Broadview, IL ICE facility is a "black hole" where detainees are deprived of legal counsel and subject to inhumane treatment - to begin.
Update: District Judge Robert Gettleman told the govt to return the immigration detainee plaintiffs in this lawsuit to IL by 4pm yesterday, as they had already been moved out of state.

I finally got word the plaintiffs were back in IL at ~7:45 am. A hearing in the case is set for 9:30 am today.

Wild that it took so long for the media to finally cover this incident. There were rumors going around various social media platforms that this was "AI" because there was no media coverage

Glad that her story is finally getting told - and that she's pursuing it in the courts

I was laid off from Teen Vogue this week, alongside multiple other phenomenal team members.

At our Summit, I was asked how it felt to be 1 of 2 Black women left and what that meant for representation. Now, there are no Black women at Teen Vogue and that is incredibly painful to think about.

This is why independent and nonprofit media is so important - we can't trust corporations to pursue anything other than their own interests

This is a huge loss for us all - Teen Vogue has been an excellent source of hard hitting journalism
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.
