I hate Chicago weather, and whatever climate change is doing to it

I went for a hike on Thursday and it was beautiful, sunny, and in the low 60s

I woke up to light snow this morning, a windchill of 21, and a winter storm warning for tonight - up to 18 inches

And then back to 60s by Saturday

Ugh. The Nazipedia version reads like an ode to Musk, which tracks given it's Grok produced. Wikipedia sounds like an actual encyclopedia entry

I looked at the Elon Musk Filmography entries and the difference is hilarious. This whole thing is part ego boost, part propaganda machine

It took 8 years, but I finally had my first Chicago coyote sighting

Out walking my dog - both of us looked up at the same time and froze. A coyote was slinking down the street right in front of us, rabbit hanging from its mouth. It stopped and looked at us, equally as surprised

ICE is all over the neighborhood where my dog's daycare is. I saw the owner and warned her - she said they don't have to worry

Business owners need to be more informed, I'm actually shocked she didn't understand the risk:

More than half her staff doesn't "look white" - legal status doesn't matter!

You can't escape the Border Patrol helicopters here in Chicago. Meeting a friend for coffee and at least 2 are flying over the West Loop & UIC campus. They just keep circling the same area for the 25 minutes I've been here - still going. Stay safe, friends

The University of Illinois System - which includes UIUC, UIC, and UIS - is trying to walk back its commitment to diversity

And it's messing with the tenure process without faculty imput

UIC United Faculty Demands to Bargain Following UI Anti-DEI Policy Rollout The UIC faculty union demands to bargain with the University of Illinois system over the impact of new policies CHICAGO–Members of UIC United Faculty at the University of Illinois-Chicago filed a demand to bargain and announced an emergency all-member meeting to make an organizing plan on Friday, October 17, following administrators' unilateral changes to UIC’s promotion and tenure process. The directive from the University of Illinois System states that faculty members are no longer allowed to be “evaluated on norms related to diversity, equity, and inclusion…effective immediately,” which contradicts previous guidelines and jeopardizes faculty already in the promotion process. The decision follows several other directives from the UI System that exclude the consideration of “race, color, national origin, and sex/gender” as eligibility criteria for institutional financial aid and that prohibit “potentially unlawful preferential treatment on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, and sex” in academic hiring practices. “These directives are an assault on the fundamental values and institutional commitments driving our work at UIC,” said Nicole Nguyen, UIC faculty member in the department of Criminology, Law, and Justice. “They represent a voluntary, pre-emptive capitulation with the Trump administration, in ways that contribute to the broader destruction of higher education. ChatGPT gave a significant portion of my students the wrong answer to an easy quiz question that everyone used to always get right

I had two groups of students turn in annotated bibliographies that were ChatGPT generated - not a single citation actually existed
