spoilers but The Diplomat is an interesting show because it's somehow based in a universe where Trump was never elected but we are also still majorly Fng up in Ukraine and NATO is dying

Almost rare these days - a statement regarding Russia signed by all 27 EU member states, thus including Hungary. This explicitly names Russia as the aggressor regarding Poland, vows further support to Ukraine and declared full solidarity with Poland. I guess not even Orban dared block this.
We condemn in the strongest terms Russia’s intentional violation of the airspace of an EU member state using drones.

This aggressive and reckless act is a serious escalation by Russia.

Because the euro is the #2 global reserve currency & 114.1% is a meaningless, arbitrary debt/GDP level that, while well above the long-ago-rendered meaningless 60% Maastricht threshold, poses no actual default or crisis risk for 🇫🇷. It’s all just political preferences about debt all the way down? 🤷‍♂️

I really need to shoot this out into the void (!!) but the first time I ever heard Mastodon was the beginning of something inexorable. I can't emphasis enough how much of a place this guy's art has in my heart and life even 15 years later. this a horrible loss. RIP to a legend

If you don’t think this moment of symbolism is 100% deliberate, you haven’t been paying attention.

The Speaker surrendering his gavel is purposeful, self-subjugation to the “King”. Congress betraying its role & yielding its power.

All on #July4th too.

this would be the end of the central eurasian studies program, which was really a delightful place to be able to study, so many languages you couldn't study many other places, so much passion and specific and deep knowledge in the staff (and students) there
One of the things I appreciated most about my time at IU was the breadth of courses I got to take purely out of interest. They made me a better person. Closing degree programs will prevent that experience for future students. Horribly sad.
Indiana University Bloomington has a very long tradition of excellence in the Humanities and non-applied/pure/foundational sciences Law passed without debate is on track to close many of these degree programs
