We cannot build thriving, climate resilient communities and associated economies if we destroy the ecological foundation those communities and economies demand.

That ecological foundation is essential and non-negotiable.

Over the course of the last ~10 years, @westernlaw.org has used the National Environmental Policy Act to defeat federal oil & gas lease sale after lease sale. Roughly ~10 million acres of public lands & resources.

They are targeting NEPA for a reason: It is a shield against destruction.
@caadcoalition.bsky.social has an overview of all the many ads big oil is buying for permitting reform.

Further, they say: "If you hear people...who aren’t your usual climate deniers arguing that we need to scrap [NEPA], ask them why they’re doing the fossil fuel industry’s advertising for them."

Any "permitting reform" legislation, in this fraught moment, is a profound mistake. Reject it. Hold the line & fight for a brighter day when we have a chance to revitalize (not "reform") bedrock environmental laws, including the Magna Carta of such laws: The National Environmental Policy Act.

And risk is ultimately the key.

There are bad things we know will happen as a result of climate change, but there are many more areas where there is a growing risk of a catastrophic failure - extreme weather, harvests, ecosystems, ocean currents, sea level - that is hard to quantify.

There is no realistic way that we get where we need to get without phasing out fossil fuels, and the fact that even that is being put back up for debate doesn’t bode well for our ability to act quickly and decisively enough.

I had a popular account with a valuable audience and my Twitter payout was $80 a month-ish, to the point where I disabled monetization instead of uploading my ID. Payouts are only material if you live in a developing country, so “guy in Nigeria posting right-wing Amerislop” has taken over the site.
Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.
