If you ever wonder why your artist friend is so pissed off whenever they see AI slop used instead of real, human-created art, it's exactly what you think:
How is AI *really* impacting jobs?

Henley Chiu, the CTO of Revealera, a jobs data analysis firm, analyzed 180 million jobs listings in 2024 and 2025, in an effort to find out. Chiu found an:

-8% drop in all jobs postings
-~30% drop in art, photography, writing jobs
-22% drop in journalism jobs
What’s really going on with AI and jobs?
Record-breaking layoff reports, Amazon's mass firings, and a slump in entry level employment. Is AI behind it all?

Tom Lehrer, the popular and erudite song satirist who lampooned marriage, politics, racism and the Cold War, then largely abandoned his music career to return to teaching math at Harvard and other universities, has died. He was 97. cnn.it/4mcSD5N

Honestly surprised to learn that Tom Lehrer just passed but this is the song of his that feels appropriate to the moment. In the pantheon of satirists. www.youtube.com/watch?v=frAE...

Marine biologist: there is not enough water in the cup to be suitable habitat for a shark

Land and climate expert trained in counterfactuals: ok, how much water was in the cup yesterday? How much was in the cup last year? And how much was originally in the cup before humans started altering it for drinking purposes?

Short version of this thread: novelty and creativity is not rare; it’s unfunded.
Every time I hear the “novelty and creativity is rare” line I get so angry I have to stand up and pace to calm down

book 3 thing that has been legitimately helping: write a huge list of

1) cool things that already exist in setting
2) cool things that could exist in setting

if you get stuck, refer to the list until you hit something that works with the scene

I'm sorry but this is approximately the funniest and stupidest thing I've ever read. Guy writes sequel to Lord of the Rings, publishes it on Amazon, then SUES AMAZON AND THE TOLKIEN ESTATE, claiming that the Rings of Power series was infringing on his copyright.
