Ok so. Who would like to hear a story.

Many of you know about my nemesis, the Viriginia opossum. Do not @ me with the thing about how omg they eat ticks; that's been disproven. (See Hennessy, Hild (2021) doi.org/10.1016/j.tt... )

This is a story about a different kind of possum. A better kind.

I'm devastated to report that my order from this place showed up today, and while I do not think it can be said to make me hot unless you're into a very specific middle-aged soft-butch aesthetic, this is already some of my favourite clothing, holy shit.

I'm sorry, but 'good person' is not a definable characteristic in a fucking job ad.

I would like this whole Woolworths strike to end, primarily because workers should be treated with dignity and respect, but secondarily and rather more selfishly, because it's reminding me how much I fucking hate Coles.

Heartbreaking: local guy so excited about eating mangoes on yoghurt that they forgot to check that the mangoes were, in fact, *ripe enough to eat*.

At least I realised before I cut into one?
Yeah, sure, some of you are having snow and beautiful weather, but *we* are having produce delivery day with an entire tray of mangoes and also two kilos of cherries!

I…forgot November only has 30 days, and suddenly, it's December?

Honestly, with absolutely no kindness at all: if someone tells you they had a shitty childbirth experience, don't say 'at least everyone's ok!' or, worse, 'at least the baby's ok!'

Say you're sorry, offer support if you can, listen.

Do *not* respond by talking about your positive birth experience.
Also. With kindness. If anybody ever tells you that they had a shitty birth experience, please don't say "at least mom and baby are okay." Believe me: you don't know they're okay. Instead, offer support, if you can, but more importantly, just offer to listen. 💚

Oh look, it's the ecologically justified genocide again!

Not everyone needs (or is able to take, or can afford) a daily preventative inhaler. Corticosteroids are amazing for people who need them, but they're drugs with side effects and contraindications, same as everything else.
This has been on the cards for a long time - already in other guidance as better for management of asthma as well as plans for NHS net zero. Find out more in this report from

You would sort of think that having the gmail address of legal first+last name would mean that, at least, you only get misdirected email looking for people who share your name.

So, then, why is some fucking guy called Kenneth using my email to apply for a bunch of sketchy online loans? 💀💀💀

fun fact: most people seeking abortions (in the US and Australia alike) are already parents.
Many of my friends who had abortions are now mothers, and I imagine sometimes how different our lives, and the lives of our children would be, if we had been forced to give birth to children when we were unprepared.

It’s a beautiful thing, to give people choice.

Lately I've had several conversations with people worried about access to medical care, and realised that many people have never dealt with minimal health care access, so: a brief thread.

Up front: This isn't US-specific. The world is unpredictable. We should all be prepared to care for ourselves.

I wrote this at kind of an awkward time (when like 90% of the internet was…y'know, asleep) so I'm gonna repost it now, sorry. I promise I won't make a habit of this.

Also the first post is a lie; it was not actually brief. Sorry for that, too.

Misha get a blog challenge; sorry, that thread went on quite a bit longer than I thought that it was going to. I could have kept going. 💀

Well, the thrilling conclusion to this is that I opened the tofu and despite having a week left on the package, it was so disgustingly gone off that I couldn't even bear to put it in the kitchen bin and had to take it outside, so, uh. That's sorted, anyhow? 💀
It's going to be very disgusting this weekend, and I have a block of tofu I need used. I need to cook it today, then toss it in the fridge for a day or two.

We eat a lot of tofu, but I rarely cook ahead. I'm leaning mapo tofu, but am willing to be convinced otherwise if anyone has ideas?

It's come to my attention elsewhere that not everyone has seen this news:

According to GoodReads/Locus/Fantastic Fiction/others (but notably *not* Amz), there's a new book in Connie Willis's Oxford Time Travel series dropping in June 2025!

[crowd goes wild]

One more reason to stay alive. 💕

I am once again reconstructing my Plex server (my fault; database corruption that I missed for…way too long) but am also considering my organisational structure.

If you have a large media library, how do you organise it? Just tv/movies/etc? Do you use collections? Separate libraries by [criteria]?

I always forget that Bluesky threads oddly, so many people are missing the sequel to the post about Mr Bingley bravely inspecting my groceries.

Please do not miss this post. He is a menace. You can't trust in appearances! He's not *just* soft and beautiful and fluffy, he's also a problem 😔
I thought, oh, I'll take a cute video of this for Blair.

Then he decided that actually, he loves bok choy and will eat it for us, thank you so much. He tried to go back for more!

(Sound not recommended; it's cute chomping noises but loud human 'what the fuck' when I realised what was happening.)
