Town Councillor for Bulwark, Chepstow. I probably won't do much politics on this site - I'm here for the other stuff - comics, books, films, beer, football, music. For my lukewarm takes on political issues, find me at @jimmact_politx in the shouty place.
While idly playing with Google street view, I decided to look at my old family home in earlier years. And there's my Mum hanging out washing in 2009. She passed away in 2012. I have lots of photos of her, but this was unexpected and....🥺

This morning's Breakfast show on BBC Radio 3 is marvelous and moving - a meditation for holocaust memorial day, from Auschwitz. Harrowing and touching stories. Beautiful music. Thanks to Petroc Trelawny and the production team.

Had a colonoscopy on Sunday (thanks NHS!). They asked if I wanted sedation (you'll be out of action for 24 hours) or entonox (you'll be ok afterwards, but no alcohol for 24 hours). Or just grit your teeth. Reader, I gritted my teeth. 🍻

Arsenal playing with white player numbers on their white kit. Probably fine on the pitch for the officials, but on TV the numbers are invisible. I'm a tiny bit surprised it's permitted. #arsmnu #facup

Wondering if anyone else has been affected by any of the issues in Kafka's The Metamorphosis? At the moment I'm just putting out feelers.

Carol and Julie two bereaved campaigning mothers who (with others) founded @killedwomennw.bsky.social have been honoured in the new year's list and I can think of few more deserving. Proud to know them.

So very sad to hear about @janeygodley.bsky.social. She was a brilliant comedian and writer and such a wonderful person to be around. I worked with her a few times and she was always fantastic. A great loss to comedy and the world. RIP Janey.

Sometimes think we don't credit the amount of time and admin it takes to be a victim of crime. Hours and hours of statements and time in court and chasing and explaining and organising measures. I have to do it a lot for relatively minor crimes but the effort even then is huge and time consuming.

I’ve been talking lately about reading a run of Tomb of Dracula.

I purchased a Spanish edition of the Gene Colan ToD AE, now only available in the States if you wanna pay big bucks. Some sites said it’s hardcover, some soft. At any rate, $70 out the door.

In 2 weeks, we’ll check it out together!

I’ve had a lot of experience with the NHS recently & one of the biggest problems is hopeless data & communications. It can make dealing with multiple departments a massive amount of work & often disaster management for patients & carers. I’m fully in favour of a joined up digital database.
Everyone saying “no we can’t let the NHS use a proper joined up digital patient database, it’s all part of a plot to privatise British healthcare and sell your data” should be forced to read the dozens (hundreds?) of case studies like these www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-...

Friends! It's the feast day of St. Hildegard of Bingen, an abbess, polymath, mystic, & eel truth-teller.

Medieval thinkers agreed that eels reproduce asexually. But Hildegard suggested that eels mate at sea, where we can't watch.

No one listened to her. But she was right! 1/2
