Never forget: At breakneck speed we are leaving the stable Holocene climate in which human society developed and thrived. Weather extremes are outside historical experience. Sea-level rise is accelerating. Dangerous tipping points are ahead.

For months I’ve been feeling like the particular brand of American authoritarianism needs a new containing concept. “Quantum Fascism” is my attempt: www.realitystudies.co/p/quantum-fa...
Welcome to Quantum Fascism: American Authoritarianism Under Donald Trump
Mark Twain famously said that "History doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes"—that's a guiding principle for the emerging political philosophy in the U.S. and beyond.

In a normal democracy, a total collapse of party leadership would result in an no-confidence vote and immediate snap elections to find leaders who can lead

I’m not hoping for an angry mob. I’m worried about it and I’m worried about leaders who aren’t.

A rousing message from the “born yesterday” department.
Hassan: With the government reopening shortly, Republicans now finally have to come to the table. Or make no mistake, Americans will remember who stood in the way.

Time to register as independent. I mean it.

No more “lesser of two evils” voter alignment. It’s a small thing you can do to send the DNC a message.

it is pretty darkly funny seeing posts like URGENT!!!! it is SUNDAY EVENING you must PUT DOWN YOUR DINNER and call your senator IMMEDIATELY to politely request they not press the big button marked "fuck you". this will not actually stop them from pressing the fuck you button. functioning democracy

Platforms change policies constantly, and generally, we can choose to adapt or not (I left X entirely because no adaptation could salvage the content sewer it had become). @jessedamiani.bsky.social focuses here on Instagram/Meta’s latest move:
Instagram is Killing Off Meme Accounts
For years, Instagram has been an ideal platform for meme creators to build community. But new policies are destroying that capacity. Here's why I think that's a major miscalculation.

OVER A MILLION USERS

DISCUSS SUICIDE WITH CHATGPT

EVERY *WEEK*

what the fuck are we DOING here
Panera’s moderately caffeinated lemonade was loosely associated with 2 deaths before it was taken off market.

This article alone has 4 examples of ChatGPT encouraging young people to commit suicide, and OpenAI’s own public stats estimate over a million users discuss suicide with ChatGPT each week.
I fully believe in the corporate death penalty and believe we would be a better world if OpenAI lost its corporate charter and was forcibly dissolved.

It's simply untrue.
