💔 Alice Wong’s last words: “Don’t let the bastards grind you down.”

We can never thank Alice enough for fighting all the good fights and especially all the hard fights. We all learned so much from your brilliance, your courage, and your indefatigable leadership. We will never forget you.

When Teen Vogue was gutted less than two weeks ago, I thought immediately of Alice Wong's column, and checked that the link I'd posted for my Disability Studies students still worked. Now I'll go into the Life Writing class files and change the dates beside her name to add "2025." In other words...

Something we should really think about is that "the children we are starving to death were already sick" isn't supposed to be some kind of exculpatory defense, it's an attempt to inject the idea that it's okay to kill people who are sick or diseased or disabled into mainstream conversation

I'm not in the habit of praising politicians, but this is a good post by Liz and we need more of this vibe from everyone, and actions consistent with it. More "No, fuck that, and fuck you" kind of stuff, all the time, every day.
I won’t share RFK Jr.’s lies about autism.

It’s disgusting and dangerous.

If he had a shred of decency, he would apologize and resign.

Autistic people contribute every day to our nation’s greatness.

To every kid with autism, I’m in this fight all the way for you.

It is really bothering me (understatement) that the message is “bring back that one innocent guy” and not “WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK SHUT DOWN THIS WHOLE OPERATION IMMEDIATELY.”

Oh man, there's so many ways Poilievre using the word "woke" is galling, but one of the most ridiculous is that he continually uses it to describe the policies of the LIBERAL PARTY OF CANADA, one of the most establishment parties that EVER ESTABLISHMENTED.

One of the saddest fuckin things about RFK’s crusade is his framing of autism as something inarguably worse than being sickened or even dying from infections.

No, none of his mouth diarrhea is accurate. But what’s also terrible is him training the country to think SO LITTLE of autistic people.

I don’t know how anyone can read this and come away with any conclusion other than the husband had his wife killed because he couldn’t deal with it anymore

This is not what MAID is for. The expansion, and especially worrying about caregiver burnout, will lead to thousands of disabled persons deaths

What I would give for my mom to be able to witness infamously-time-oblivious me trying to get my even-more-time-oblivious kid ready for school every morning. The chuckle we’d share would be so wonderful.

Per last paragraph, not headline: White House says only some of the list is an error. So they can say “women” and “elderly,” but White House confirmed they CAN’T say “inter,” “diversity,” “intersex,” “trans.”

Right now, for a lot of Canadians the temptation is to ignore Indigenous people because the threats from the US seem way more important. This turn to fervent and ignorant nationalism is a mistake. Don't alienate the people who know more about your "country" than you do. Find common cause instead.

Fuuuuuck this.
The National Park Service eliminated references to transgender people from its Stonewall National Monument web page, removing the “T” in references to LGBTQ+ on the official site for the Greenwich Village monument, which marks a milestone in the fight for gay rights.

Still reeling from the exchange with my dentist's receptionist this morning--I could not convince her that three months from now is not the end of April. I counted on my fingers, etc. She doubled down "because we're already pretty much in January." So my appt. is now the end of April.

What I want from AI is for everyone involved to shut up and look at the stats on AI emissions until they pass out from shame and then never talk to me again until that problem is fixed or just never again, never is fine.

UPDATE about the deletion of Palestinians accounts.

I want to thank @support.bsky.team for getting back to me on a very busy week and also answering my follow up questions.

I’ll lead with the most important thing before explaining a little more in this thread 🧵

One of my favourite things about this is how it makes me picture all the dead architects of the world's colonial parliament houses tossing and turning in their crappy little graves

A little daunted by the advice to make sure you have 5-10 posts on your profile as soon as you start here so no one blocks you. Old me would have had that up within a day; evidently I've clammed up quite a bit the past few years.

I have no idea what to post first on here. When I used to ask my mom for social advice and got annoyed at how 1960s her suggestions sounded, she'd say, imagine what my mom's 1940s social advice sounded like--it was all "Hey fellas!" So, "Hey fellas!"
