“For all this talk about free speech, this is direct censorship of scientific research.”

Misinformation researchers are being investigated under a fake “censorship industrial complex” narrative at the same time as the govt is literally censoring scientific research. Free speech warriors indeed 🙄
“It’s extremely alarming that grants that have been vetted by the scientific community and deemed important and impactful to understand the world are now being cancelled because of political ideology,” says @lkfazio.bsky.social.

Slightly annoying how many of the comments are like, "This is written so broadly it's going to even affect ME over here in chemistry" or whatever. We need to (always) stand together as scientists whether you're the target or the collateral damage.

That was the only argument I ever needed to hear about gender affirming care.

I would add that rejecting "viewpoint diversity" is the entire point of the academy. We evaluate the value of ideas, and drop charlatans claiming global warming isn't real, discrimination doesn't exist, or vaccines cause autism.

They've lost in the "marketplace of ideas" so are rigging the game.
The very same people who lambasted DEI efforts as a subversion of the meritocracy are happily taking money and jobs in the name of “viewpoint diversity”
This is a deeply researched article showing the web of conservative foundations and think tanks supporting efforts like UNC’s “civic life” school. Basically, if you study U.S. history through a conservative lens, there’s money out there for you.
