Two and a half years after the NYT explicitly attempted to add trans reporters to the paper, the efforts never resulted in a hire.

"This leaves an open question: Why?" writes the former NYT editor tapped to recruit.

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

Very sad to see NBC Out go down. I know journalists who have worked there and it was home to some of the best in depth reporting on LGBTQ+ issues out there from a legacy media outlet.

Legacy media continues to abandon us, and it seems only we can tell our own stories these days.

Every single piece of research demonstrates that this is dangerously medically wrong. We’ve never had any reason to believe otherwise, medicine has always known this.

In terms even the NHS can understand: people at highest risk of breast cancer all have one thing in common and it isn’t a uterus.
Just got a call from a lovely but very nervous Dr, who advised I wouldn't be routinely screened for breast cancer because I'm not indicated as being "biologically female" on the central NHS database and my biology wouldn't indicate I'm at risk.

My records have been altered, which is upsetting.

My publisher’s been very patient. I’m not doing everything I said I’d do to promote this book (out in a few weeks) because I’m an organizer in a city under federal attack. My days are full and emotionally exhausting. Any help getting the word out means a lot. It's a book people need right now.

100% The way this story was reported was... irresponsible and reprehensible.
There's plenty of complexity to the story of Ian Roberts, the Black Iowa superintendent arrested by ICE.

But the way the @nytimes.com chose to frame this article is racist and shameful.
