Agree with this thread. Worth reading in full.

25 years ago John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, and AC Barrett all worked on GWBush's 2000 Florida recount team. What they're doing now is, if anything, more nakedly partisan.

Fire-breathing dissent by Kagan, with Sotomayor and Jackson.
They're not even trying to appear nonpartisan anymore.
#BREAKING: Over dissents from the three democratic appointees, #SCOTUS puts Texas's new House maps back into effect for (and, presumably, through) the 2026 midterms.

The three Democratic appointees, in an opinion by Justice Kagan, dissent.

I'll post the ruling shortly.

Fine, we’ll show you respect. You can stay for life. Everything else goes.
No shadow docket. Ride the circuit. No clerks. No building budget. Fine, you can stay for life. But there will be 16 new colleagues, with fixed terms, & it'll be 9 by lottery for any case. Or, you could simply start following the law & constitution.

I really appreciate Justice Jackson contrasting the lower courts' meticulous and responsible approach to judging—extensive deliberations, written opinions—with the Supreme Court's slapdash, unreasoned work over the shadow docket. www.documentcloud.org/documents/26...

The bottom 90% lost a collective $79 trillion in wages over the past 50 years.

Why? Because the top 1% ate up an increasingly larger share of the national income — so that $79 trillion flowed to them instead of the working class.

The greatest trick of all is trickle-down economics.

The Supreme Court majority has decided that they are the fact-finders, and the facts are what they want them to be, and quite frankly if District Courts disagree, they can pound sand because they're not the ones in charge.

They're right about the last part. But the damage they're doing is longterm.

At every level of courts, it’s always too late to stop a Republican gerrymander & always too late to implement anti-gerrymander rulings that will benefit Democrats & democrats. It’s been this way in Wisconsin & nationwide for at least two decades now.
just to drive home the point. Texas created this map in August. the lower court rendered its decision November. So three months later, a year before the election in question.
The word "eve" is doing a lot of work here in the Court's 'decision'

I don't think the Justices understand the extent to which they are playing with fire. The more they do this, the more District Courts will engage in open disrespect of the Supreme Court, because what other response is there to open disrespect directed at them? That's bad for the Judiciary, period.

Senator Ron Johnson went on a conspiracy show to promote 9/11 Truther-type nonsense.

This is a sitting U.S. Senator.

Barely a week ago, we learned of Witkoff and Kushner’s plot to launder an unedited Russian proposal as US policy, primarily so that wealthy American businessmen can benefit from Russia’s natural resources. Now they’re meeting with Putin.
Vladimir Putin today, ahead of his meeting with Trump envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to supposedly talk peace: “We have no intention of fighting Europe — I’ve said this a hundred times. But if Europe decides to start a war, we are ready right now.”

The wealth of the bottom 50% of the global population, over 4 billion people, is estimated at $3.7 trillion.

A FOIA search - not even a release - for a single document will take nearly a year.

It's hard to think of a more clear example of WHY whistleblowers, leakers, and journalists are essential for the public's right to know.
IRS says it needs at least 8 months to find a single email about ICE's request to access taxpayer data in response to my FOIA.

Helpfully reminds me I can sue them for the delay.
