"You might remember me from such social media sites as..." Husband, Dad, cynic. MN by way of MA and VA.
They really are delightful - very tasty and just as beautiful as the picture suggests. They ship very well to the U.S.

Of course, I think the name is great, but that's a coincidence. I'm not affiliated or related. :)

/3 I am informed it’s normal to get more intolerant as I get older and I think I am absolutely getting less tolerant of other people’s absolute bullshit.

As a kid, they made me say the words "with liberty and justice for all" every day at 8AM. Now I'm "woke" and "unAmerican" because I want liberty and justice for all.

this is just an observation but one way to think of the civil war is that it WAS about states rights, but the right in question was the right of free states to stay free
[whispers provocatively] the 1850 fugitive slave act is the model: reactionaries have the right to extend their authority across state lines, and their opponents have to actively assist them

On 09/11/2001, "Let's roll" entered the lexicon of American heroism.

If our Republic survives the present crisis, it will be because "But it was never going to be me" is likewise adopted as a rallying cry.

The BREAKING NEWS from the NYT version of the story is that Trump believes people convicted of a crime -- that is, people like him -- should spend time in prison.

I hope Alvin Bragg remembers to include that in his sentencing memo.

Hypothesis: The big disjunct between Senator and President polling in swing states (eg, Kari Lake -14 versus Trump -1) measures the difference between MAGAts reported as the batshit people they are and Trump, whose batshittery the MSM has cleaned up.

The Constitutional Crisis is already here. You are living inside it. No way back, for better or worse. Either fight to win the future or concede to fascist tyranny taking over our country, the world's largest economy and mightiest military.

I’m an actual pacifist. I want all guns banned. I just need the left to do less “violence is bad even when it happens to Trump” and more “this is the world Trump wants the rest of us to live in.”

You can say that you’re tired of being told this is The Most Important Election Of Our Lives, but the reality is that preventing a coup is going to take overwhelming numbers of votes for the foreseeable future and if you aren’t willing to vote all the time you have to be ready for The Consequences.

I hope people understand that what we are seeing is the systematic destruction of the civil war amendments by the Supreme Court, which are what made America and actual democracy and upon which all minority rights in the United States rely

The constitutional crisis is already here. You are living inside of it. There are many different ways it could resolve itself but a quiet return to the mid-to-late-20th century constitutional order is not one of them.

I am once again begging people with power within the Democratic Party to devise a better strategy for dealing with the right-wing death grip on the courts than "win every election for 30 years and hopefully appoint their replacements."

In 30 years of this there won't be anything left to salvage.

Excellent article from @adamserwer.bsky.social. But here’s the thing: Trump exacerbated things, but everything described here will almost certainly come to pass next time there’s a Republican in the WH. This isn’t a one election problem—it’s the rest of our lives. www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...
A MAGA Judiciary
In a second term, Donald Trump would appoint more judges who don’t care about the law.
