Yorick, perhaps, and I mean that sincerely, not as a joke.

Alas.

Interesting take. I'm not sure I read it that way, but now I'm wondering if I heard what P. actually said or what I would like for him to have said.

I gave up caffeine 5 years ago, but I've never once considered it a "lifestyle."

Occasionally, I've considered it a little sad that Mountain Dew now has a rainbow of options that I've never tried. Now I guess Mt. Dew is oppressing my lifestyle by not offering decaf options.

I think this is a genuinely interesting insight that I hadn't considered.

"There's nothing special about Gen X" does seem a bit on the nose, though.

They're all that and much worse, whether wittingly or not.

I've doubts about the "or not."

In your own understanding. If you are certain of something, you have neither need nor room for faith.

And faith requires doubt.

Somewhat analogous to vaccines in the culture: anti-vax nonsense can take root because the memory fades of what vaccines prevent.

This won’t be a popular opinion around here but I'm skeptical we'll get a space hotel in 2027.

Literally the only good thing about VP Vance is how much it must personally and egregiously vex Cotton that Vance is VP and likely POTUS (after It Happens). Cotton's whole life has been dedicated to that path, and Vance just swooped in and had it handed to him.

Just make sure we get both scoops.

I think Urinetown deserves a special mention because it is so much better than the title leads you to expect.

A bad title could kill a show.

One common flavor of this: slavery is bad, but the fact that Africans and Black people in America facilitated slavery means white people have no particular guilt. It flattens slavery into individual wrongs long past instead of systemic wrongs that are still salient.

I learned this in history class more than 25 years ago. I thought it was common knowledge, particularly in the south, because it is often used to deflect blame from white people.

/3 I am informed it’s normal to get more intolerant as I get older and I think I am absolutely getting less tolerant of other people’s absolute bullshit.

I wonder if GOP leadership thinks Trump really is dying, and Mike Johnson is trying to delay the release of the files until after it happens.

One way to express this: I think if Tolkien were here in 2025, he would be willing to engage thoughtfully and critically with these issues. I don't think he would double down like Rowling.

Somehow, "Prince was a lifelong Minnesotan" explains a lot of this. I mean that with respect. It's not a deeply thought out claim, but it feels right.
