Science Nerd that swears a LOT w/degrees in biochem, nursing. Our home is a bit of a zoo, with the cats and dog. Mom of a grown adult & unsure how that happened. Raised in Northern WI, but now a proud Minnesotan who’s often too direct for the locals.
Welp, so much for hopeful thinking. I feel like my head is going to split open, I have a really strong fever, and my left arm where I stupidly agreed to get both injections is so hot, swollen, and painful—I have limited range of motion.
I finally got around to getting my Covid and influenza vaccinations. Fingers crossed that I don’t start feeling like complete shit, as I’m scheduled to work this weekend.

I had all three cats “helping” me change the bedding, which was rather challenging. See if you can spot the third cat.

During the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, a marble statue of Louis Agassiz fell from 2nd floor of Stanford's Zoology building into main quad.

Professor Frank Angell reportedly quipped:
"Agassiz was great in the abstract but not in the concrete."

The statue was unharmed, returned to its perch...

What's not to love about an axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum)?

They've got feathery gills, tiny amphibian bodies & happy little faces 😀.

But did you know they're masters of regeneration? Let's talk about why *being cute* and *growing back severed limbs* are, in fact, related.

Reminds me of the time in the mid-90s during The Big Dig in Boston. I had a guy from South Boston pick me up from Logan—he’s careening through rush hour traffic to take me to the conference I was organizing in a burb north of Boston, hair metal blaring, hanging out the window flipping people off.
My Uber driver is driving like he has star power in Mario Kart. And even if he does, I don’t.

I shocked the group of “bad kids” when I (a very much perceived as being a “good girl”) expertly smoked a joint with them at a house party. 1980s Northern Wisconsin, folks. 😂
Most of you haven’t done drugs in Iowa. Midwest for that matter. It shows if we’re being honest.

I found another wonderful gluten free meal to share with y’all. We subbed goat milk and goats milk cheddar for the cows milk dairy, as we’re mildly lactose intolerant. It was a delicious dinner, paired with a side of fresh blueberries and strawberries.
