‘Bauble’ comes from Old French ‘baubel’ - a child’s toy.

'Mistletoe' is thought to translate literally as 'dung twig'. 'Toe' meant twig in Old English. 'Mistle' derives from a Germanic word which meant 'dung' or 'filth'.
