Gosh, this new "Your Party" feels like one of those kinetic art installations that poetically destroys itself.

This is as bad as anything proposed by Reform.

Leaving refugees in permanent limbo and unable to build a new life in the UK would be a complete abdication of our humanitarian responsibilities

UK set to limit refugees to temporary stays
Shabana Mahmood is expected to say the era of permanent protection for refugees is over, in major changes to the UK's asylum and immigration system.

I've written to Keir Starmer, Kemi Badenoch and Nigel Farage, urging them to join me in condemning Elon Musk's dangerous remarks inciting violence yesterday.

As leaders, we must stand together and make clear Musk will face serious consequences for these actions.

Very near unfollowing someone.

Orchestrated a pile-on against some dude who was a dick and wrong, but really didn't deserve the 20k v about 200 followers sh*t that ensued.

The TRAPPIST-1 d exoplanet may be Earth-sized 🌍 but it has no Earth-like atmosphere.

Webb’s #NIRSpec has found no traces of molecules that are common in Earth’s atmosphere.

To film and TV producers everywhere: please stop showing quill pens with all the bloody feathers.

These were stripped off, as the weight unbalances the pen. But for theatricality's sake, every now and again, you can leave a little tab of feather near the end

This is a cartload of nonsense from very intelligent people who ought to know a lot better. The only decent point they make against the UK government's prespective recognition of Palestine is that it's wrong to use it as an explicit bargaining chip to reward or punish Israel.

Thread follows.
Excl: Some of the UK's most prominent lawyers have warned Starmer that his pledge to recognise Palestine breaks international law

Lord Pannick, who represented the government against claims the Rwanda scheme breached international law, is among 40 peers who have written to the AG t.co/2naeSnZhhA

In case you're in doubt (thanks to the nonsense from Avi at Harvard), 3I/ATLAS is an interstellar comet passing briefly through the solar system.

But the alien nonsense did make me re-read the Crazy Eddie part of the Mote in God's Eye ... not a bad model for how aliens might visit.

Starting on my reliquary project this weekend.

Step 1 is to prepare it for egg tempera painting, so gesso.

Big Q is do I *really* want to go fully authentic with rabbit skin glue, etc, or use a ready-made casein gesso ...

Oh, and I'll paint the box it came in for practise 🤣

Just 'cos my dad played with them, when Durham were a good team, I'd have to include two of the 1962 Lions 🤣

Mike Weston (far left back row, next to my dad)
Stan Hodgson (with ball)

The colour photo was taken by my mum, the black & white is the official team photo.

So, I'm white and have no ancestors outside of England/Wales/Scotland for as far back as I can trace ... is it weird that, because I have relatively dark skin and tan easily, that someone asked how far back I was mixed race?

I mean, I don't/wouldn't care, but who the f*** asks that question?

Gah! I'm sure there was a paper somewhere about where we'd expect to detect interstellar objects which had a big cluster near the solar apex (and a smaller one around the antapex).

Can't find the darned thing. ISTR it came up talking to @chrislintott.bsky.social maybe, around Oumuamua time??

Discovery & preliminary characterisation of #3I/ATLAS

Similar colour to 2I/Borisov. At least weakly active. Flat light-curve suggests colour dominated by the coma (rather than the underlying surface). Upper limit on size 11.8 km.
