Words, music, myth, folklore. I am, I think, and increasingly, a Luddite.

You just died.

The sixth picture in your gallery is what killed you.

You’ve been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who’s coming to save you?

I’m toast.

I remember reading this and thinking, nah. Placebo effect. Also, my hearing has suffered. Even if true, I wouldn’t notice.

The difference is night and day. Listened to The Court by Peter Gabriel (sparse but also dense) and the separation of instruments was astonishing. So many details I’d missed.
I just switched from Spotify to Tidal as a half-baked ethical gesture and maybe this is some sort of aural placebo effect but the difference in sound quality is startling, as though Spotify plays everything through a sock. Or am I just imagining this

I've TWO of these beautiful 'Witch & Hare' original linocuts by my mum, Jo, to give away to my Bluesky followers. The print is from my recently republished book, Help The Witch.

All you have to do to enter is repost this story from the book (maybe give it a read too?) www.tom-cox.com/robot-2/

Yes I am posting this because I covet that hare, but also I have read the piece and you should too because it's beautiful and fond, and (as someone closer to 50 than 40, with many unfulfilled dreams) inspiring and reassuring.
I have two - TWO - of these gorgeous original A4 meadow hare linoprints by my mum, Jo, to give away to a couple of lucky people here on Bluesky today.

Rules are simple: to be in with a chance to win, you just have to repost this piece I wrote about Jo and her art: www.tom-cox.com/the-magic-ro...

#100DaysOfWriting day 3. Wrote some dialogue with a brand new character. Made some promises to myself about what I wanted this story to be.

Day 2 of #100DaysOfWriting and it's . . . ok, actually. A handful of words, some of them surprising. Put my glasses on. Added a song to the playlist.

#100DaysOfWriting not exactly off to a flier due to a slight illness and an immense weariness, BUT words were written and I made a chart (which sadly means that the 'I'm being productive because I'm making a chart' phase of the challenge is over).

I’ve conjured up David Foster Gregg Wallace but I don’t know what to do with it.

@patricknessbooks.bsky.social I've just read A Monster Calls. I think it's the best and truest book about illness and grief I've ever read. I don't think I'll ever get over it. (In the best possible way—all of my favourite books are books I've failed to get over in one way or another).

Want to know what you should read this summer? Ask a bookseller. Ask a writer. Ask a librarian. Ask a living, breathing human being. Hell, ask me! It's been a while since I've done one of these, so let's do it: one like = one summer reading book rec.
This was just posted by @tbretc.bsky.social on another platform. The Chicago Sun-Times obviously gets ChatGPT to write a ‘summer reads’ feature almost entirely made up of real authors but completely fake books. What are we coming to?

Our bodies emit a stream of low-energy photons, and now experiments in mice have revealed that this ghostly glow is cut off when we die

@garypanton.co.uk I gave my daughter The Notwitches at bedtime, and I just went up to see how she was getting on with it. She's not always easy to please with books (I've had a few misses recently!) but her verdict on The Notwitches was: It. Is. Perfect. (And a tiny little 👌).

Just watched The Staircase, and I’m left with a lingering certainty that Colin Firth should be cast as William Shatner in a dramatisation of the making of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.
