The local theater is showing Matilda which I had never seen before and I’ve had “my mommy says I’m a miracle!” stuck in my head all day.

Totally unrelated.

All of these bootlegged copies of the 60 Minutes segment flooding my feed (saying, ‘Watch it quick! Before it disappears!’) makes me feel like I’m in the Soviet Union and just got some black market foreign newspaper I need to hide under a floorboard in my house.

This is where America is now

All dudes need to watch @kumail.bsky.social’s special. It’s a good one for all humans, but an especially must watch for all those who think they don’t have negative feelings.

In the waiting room at guitar center while kiddo is in drum lessons, and the vibes y’all, they are vibing. The kids are alright. I can’t wait for a decade from now when the dark days are over and we have so much good art out of this time. Please let the dark days be over by then.

The Republican-controlled Utah state legislature put a moratorium on health care for trans kids, and ordered an exhaustive review of the evidence. Two and a half years later, the 1000-page report said, in short, care for trans kids is safe and effective.

Utah lawmakers’ own study found gender-affirming care benefits trans youth. Will they lift the treatment ban?

Smoking in restaurants used to be ubiquitous — despite it degrading the experience for everyone else.
It was the way things had always been done — it's tradition! Smokers are essential for business!
Then we banned it in 2005. Now no one wants to go back.

This is a post about cars in Pike Place.

In non dog related news, I had a big presentation at work today that went really well. It’s not lost on me I worked hard & got lucky to be where I am career wise, and it’s nice ending the year feeling proud of how I’ve challenged myself, grown, and not let anxiety get the better of me. #smallwins

We got our #rescuepup from an amazing organization called #ThreeLittlePitties based in Texas. I searched our local shelters for months, but in 2023 many were full of grown dogs not socialized well during the pandemic, and with two kiddos, cats, and chickens, our first doggo had to be a puppy.

My best fur friend and I watching 90s movies this evening and it’s the only way to survive the big dark in the PNW.

I’m literally in the middle of cleaning out the chicken coop and decide to come in for a quick sec to finish the coffee pot. The other pets are determined to not let me finish.

Watching Home Alone for the first time with the kids, age 8 and 11, and it’s the PERFECT age. Kids think this is high comedy, and the youngest is a trickster like Kevin.

75k people is a wild amount of people. Never in my 42 years of living in the PNW have I heard of such evacuations. We have always had wet winters, but these climate change fueled atmospheric rivers are something else. Spread the word, hoping folks play it safe and get to higher ground ASAP.
Everyone living in the Skagit County floodplain has now been asked to evacuate. Estimates have placed that number close to 75,000 people.

Gov. Bob Ferguson said the Skagit River is expected to crest around 4 a.m. Thursday at 46 feet. The previous record was 42 feet.

Skagit County has ordered Mount Vernon and upriver communities of Hamilton, Rockport, Marblemount and Concrete to evacuate to high ground as soon as possible.

Everyone in Skagit County living in the 100-year floodplain will likely receive an evacuation notice today.

There is nothing I hate more than registering kids for sports. The apps are never good, buggy as hell, and require SO MUCH INFO. And as soon as I’m done with one the other kid needs the same address/insurance/emergency contact information and you can’t copy it over. Please someone make it better!!

We're half a decade into studies finding that improving airflow in classrooms will reduce disease transmission enormously, and that bleaching surfaces etc. does very little. And yet nothing changes. Waves of flu and colds wash over schools, and the schools pretend it's an act of God.

I am so happy I left X.
I loved the community there.
But it is gone.
I loved the diversity there.
But it is gone.
I loved the idea I was getting good information.
But it is gone.
And I have discovered new things here and in the world.
And I sleep better.
And I am not supporting Twitter.
It is gone
Pretty crazy that nearly all of the EU Commission is still on X even as Elon Musk is literally talking about destroying the EU.

You can leave X. It's really not that difficult.
So what's the outcome?

2️⃣5️⃣ of the 27 Commissioners have posted in the last week

2️⃣4️⃣ of the 27 generally post every week (Albuquerque has never been on X, Ribera is sporadic, McGrath has somehow stopped)

0️⃣ have stopped as a result of what Twitter has become since the Musk takeover

This is an excellent and necessary use of Holocaust analogies.

Like, sometimes you should avoid Holocaust analogies. But not in this case. This is right on.

One of the funniest things to me about Man on the Inside is how accurate the representation of teenage kids. Them asking for worn skins for some ridiculous video game on their day off was my Friday, complete with a random day off from school no parent remembered.
