The tone of an organisation is set from the leader on down, and the tone of Keir Starmer's leadership has always been 'say it if it is convenient'.

That is a factually untrue claim: the Home Office shows that the UK is fifth, getting 1/10 claims, while Germany gets 1/5 claims

if you canceled disney ai slop plus, a small fraction of that sub can keep you in the know about some of the latest greatest sff short fic. you'll be talking about short stories at the water cooler instead of a marvel, and people will be like wow, this is one hip well-read person. what a cool cat.
In light of the astronomical increases for my health insurance next year, I thought it would be a good time to encourage people to subscribe. (A few hundred should cover it. Sigh.)

The hill I'll die the hardest on is that almost everything "WE WERE NEVER TAUGHT IN SCHOOL" (slavery, Irish famine, etc) is stuff that you were taught in school but weren't paying any attention to because you were 14 and thinking about girls/boys/football/scifi/all of the above instead of the lesson
The comments here that are questioning the history curriculum: WE LEARN THIS IN SCHOOL. I DON'T KNOW HOW PEOPLE MISS THIS.

the job market used to be so much easier i swear like you need 20yrs of experience to do an entry-level coffee fetching internship job these days meanwhile if i pan back into the 1900s if you could read above a 4th grade level you were qualified enough to be the head of a government agency

I like the LOWER DECKS episode about the NotPredator who engages in consensual catch-and-release hunting to honor his ancestors in a modern, humane manner.
Nobody has ever done anything interesting or unexpected with the culture of the Predators onscreen, that they probably aren't ever going to, and I think I've just made my peace with it
