People often ask: what can ordinary people do to stop populists like Trump and Smith from running roughshod over democratic norms?

Populists rely on the widespread perception that their actions are supported by "the majority" and "common people."

Anything that punctures that myth helps. +

⚠️ URGENT UPDATE: Premier Danielle Smith has now used the Notwithstanding Clause TWICE.

First to force teachers back to work with Bill 2.
Now to override trans rights through Bill 9.

It violates rights, sidesteps the courts, and puts everyone’s protections at risk.

Like me, many Albertans are caught in the middle between those who defend and oppose the government at all costs.

Fortunately, Peter Lougheed provided us with guidelines for how to approach these issues.

We break down her fake “strongman” act, her panic over recall laws, and what Albertans can do to push back.

The UCP government has invoked time allocation and on a bill removing Albertans' Charter rights.

And they're using the notwithstanding clause to do it.

Here's why that is a dangerous precedent. And why real conservatives need to stand up against it.

The lack of accountability is the point.

It’s easier to pretend you aren’t failing students, teachers, and parents if you stopped collecting evidence showing you’re doing exactly that.
"Although the province stopped tracking class sizes in 2019, educators say anecdotally their classrooms are becoming increasingly jammed."

Honestly wild Alberta stopped tracking this data and we now have to rely on anecdotal evidence when it comes to a key issue holding up a new teachers contract.
