It's election day. A defining ballot box issue never really emerged during the #yycvote campaign & so it's easy to think this election doesn't matter.

Read about why #yyc is at a crossroads & how today's election will determine the path we travel down:

Will Communities First candidates Jeremy Wong & Terry Wong push back against their party leader's new position on Green Line? Or will voters in Wards 4 & 7 be left waiting for a train that will never arrive because the party leader calls the shots?

#yycvote
Last night, Sonya Sharp said she doesn't support either proposed #greenlineyyc downtown alignment & instead wants a SE LRT to nowhere that even the UCP has rejected. Calgarians deserve to know if this is now the official Communties First party position.

There has yet to be a defining ballot box issue take hold this election. Where are the big ideas to move our city forward? This election can, and should, be about so much more. Calgary is at a crossroads. Onward or backward. #yycvote - the choice is yours.

Is building #greenlineyyc an important #yycvote topic for you? Do you care whether the next stage of construction helps expand the line into north #yyc or doubles down on the southeast? Do you have strong opinions on how the train gets through downtown? Here's what the mayoral candidates said:

Still undecided on your #yycvote for mayor? Want something to talk about at the Thanksgiving table? We're happy to report strong support from candidates on the #greenlineyyc vision & increasing funding to transit in Budget 2026. There's differing opinions on downtown & Stage 2:

Calgary's next #yyccc election is Oct 20. A key ballot box question will be whether we continue to move forward on transit, housing & 5A infrastructure or if we're dragged back in time. It's why we're sharing MoreNeighbours' #yycvote call to action:

Pleased to see #greenlineyyc, regional rail & active transportation modes feature prominently in the @calgarychamber.bsky.social election platform. Calgarians needs to elect candidates who will use their time on #yyccc to ensure Green Line is built north AND south & downtown is built right.

Irony is officially dead in Alberta. Instead of the UCP working to solve the problems they're in charge of, they're spending time & energy policing local decisions, like bike lanes, & punishing cities that step up to solve the problems the UCP won't

Some important added context on the current #yycbike lane debate the UCP has decided to stir up. Once it again, it appears "the feels" trumps the facts.
There is also the topic of vehicle-per-day capacity of our built streets versus actual volume.

Take 12 Ave SW, with 3 oneway vehicle lanes it could handle 15 to 32k VPD, but it only had 10 to 15k VPD in 2023.🤔

This tells us 12 Ave SW is currently overbuilt with 3 lanes.🤷‍♂️

DYK that despite the population of #yyc growing by over 400,000 people between 2015 & 2023, downtown traffic volume has actually gone done? It's obvious the UCP & Minister Devin Dreeshen don't know that, but less traffic is what investing in alternatives like #yycbike lanes & transit is all about

Today is a over a decade in the making. It's very exciting #greenlineyyc will finally go from a line on a map to track in the ground. The first kilometer was always going to be the hardest one. Now we've started to build, we shouldn't stop until all 44km are built

This'll be a great addition to #yyc. Unfortunately it'll have a big, empty lot sitting next to it as the fate of #greenlineyyc north of 7 Ave remains in limbo. Whether elevated or tunneled, a design plan for Eau Claire station & Bow River Bridge needs to be finished

It's election season. In the past 2 days, over $2.5 Billion in new transit funding has been announced across the country. Opponents love to say #greenlineyyc will never be built beyond the Stage 1 plan, however the money's out there. We just need to actually start building something first

"the 2025 approved, provincially mandated, provincial-consultant delivered, Government-of-Alberta-preferred alignment is virtually the same one the UCP derided as such going back to at least 2019."

The UCP delayed things 18 months because of this back in 2019

Smith and the UCP could green-light the Green Line tomorrow. They simply have to agree to share in the cost risk of the plan they’ve brought to the table. Any hesitation to do so strongly suggests they know they’re selling snake oil, not real solutions.

Did Minister Dreeshen & the Alberta UCP really decide to blow up a $7 billion infrastructure project based on a 2 page document pitched by a third party group? No wonder they don't want to stand behind their #greenlineyyc plan & cost share the risk. What a farce.

There's an easy way for DanielleSmith & Devin Dreeshen to kick off construction of #greenlineyyc. They just have to #StandByThePlan. If they really believe elevated is lower risk & lower cost than tunnels, agree to share the risk with #yyccc. Otherwise they're selling snake oil to Calgarians.

Every kid in school knows you can't just write down a solution, you need to show your work. Drawing a line on a map & asking #yyccc to approve a $6 billion project is D- work from Premier Danielle Smith & Devin Dreeshen. Release the AECOM report. Consult Calgarians

Minister Dreeshen doing a #greenlineyyc victory lap after drawing a longer line on a map is certainly a choice. Calgarians are left with far more questions than answers about design & cost. Not giving #yyccc the AECOM report shows this is all about politics
