We talk about "Australia's gas" and "our exports" but when it's a Japanese company not paying any royalties, no PRRT, exporting to Japan and then onto other countries... is it really "Australian gas"?

Murdoch rag,”The Australian” compares Bob Carr’s opposition to Israeli apartheid and genocide against Palestinians to the disgusting display of Nazism at NSW parliament.
Bob’s courage, commitment and defence of innocent Palestinians deserves praise not character assassination.

How very convenient to, ah, miss that Nazi protest application Your Honour, meaning when it went ahead, it made us suddenly aware we need more laws and it was the perfect bit of outrage to do so and of course we didn't let it happen on purpose

What Machiavellis do you take us for?

This is my third reposting today of Greg Jericho’s articles re the Dismissal, etc. How about just following the bloke and educating yourself about the event and its ramifications for modern politics.
A reminder - governments *can* do things.
A progressive government *should* do things.
A better country is possible.
Governments *choose* what they do (or do not do).

Ever since Gough Whitlam was dismissed 50 years ago, an idea has hampered Labor governments that Whitlam's had been unreasonably progressive, trying to do too much too quickly. But is that accurate?
Was Whitlam dismissed for being too radical?

Whitlam showed us what a brave, grown up Australia could look like.  And 50 years later, you have to wonder – is it even possible to make Australia brave again?

I was absolutely furious. I thought people would march in the streets & was prepared to do that.
But what did Australians do?
They couldn’t be arsed. Like usual. Believed the Lib lies that Whitlam was a disaster that had to go.
