People get mad when I say it, but I will again: The intentional gutting of all media that could and has historically been used to help protect democracy is deeply linked to the rise of fascism and the end of democracy. The wealth class has consolidated enough of media to fully embrace anti-democracy
Vice had the best extremism coverage going. A very deep loss. America is about to face the fascist takeover without much of a way for people to reliably find out about it.

In case you were wondering, the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms’ 2023 “Year in Review” does not include any mention of its president having his law license suspended for 3 years for hiring a private eye to place a judge under surveillance.

I think a lot about the epidemiologist I heard on NPR at the start of the pandemic who said her primary concern for misinformation was "bored white guys who love data"
This is what happens when everyone decides that you are the very best at fantasy baseball.

The deal seems to be that people can largely live like in pre-pandemic times as long as we accept getting miserably ill maybe twice a year (especially during family holidays), accept heightened risks of long-term health problems, and let old/vulnerable folks die. Doesn’t seem like a good deal to me.

I just received a FOIP package tied to the Alberta renewable energy pause and, I kid you not, the government redacted what could only be the words "oil and gas" or "oil industry" or similar, in this email. This is absurd. #abpoli #cdnpoli

Alberta just axed renewable energy projects in Alberta.

"Tilting at windmills" just turned into a very dark phrase indeed.

The easiest way to find white people in the woods is to belt out "Sweet Caroline"

They'll inevitably shout back "bum bum bum .."
My brother is blaring Sweet Caroline at this lake house at 9:30 AM and I guess I can still be annoyed by my baby brother pretty effectively

A refinery in northern Alberta was able to operate for 22 years without environmental permits, demonstrating the lawlessness of Alberta's oil and gas industry.

The Oil Industry Makes Its Own Rules in Canada’s Tar Sands
An oil refinery processing tar sands crude without permits for over two decades showcases Alberta’s need for regulation. But with the Trudeau Liberals’ history of giving Big Oil no-strings-attache...

Obviously ghosts aren't real, if they were, the ghost of Nikola Tesla would haunt the grifter who bought the company bearing his name and turned that name into a watchword for shoddy, dangerous products, using his ghost powers to ensure that talentless hack is incapable of happiness or satisfaction.

This should be obvious, but just as addressing social biases requires adopting an explicit counter bias (anti-whatever the original bias was), governments that claim to want to increase conservation and protect biodiversity need to adopt an explicit pro-conservation stance.

jack dorsey looks like the kind of guy who says “it’s a good problem to have” when it is not, in fact, a good problem to have.
jack dorsey looks like the kind of guy who you were polite to at the beginning of the party which he takes as an open invitation to corner you later on and regale you about his multiple “ventures”, using as many tech-speak futurist buzzwords possible meanwhile you’re just trying to get drunk & dance
