The Health and Social Care Committee’s evaluation of palliative care in England was published yesterday.

It’s hugely important, not least in the context of the assisted dying bill.

It’s had almost no media coverage.

Really useful paper. Traditional dosing strategies (200mg IM loading, followed by 800-1200mg/day) don't reflect its half-life. Typical loading doses of around 600mg may not need any follow-on regular dose (or a very-much-less than 800mg/day dose if used)

We are pleased to announce that Dr Catriona Mayland has been granted a highly competitive @nihr.bsky.social Advanced Fellowship award to study 'unheard voices' in #EndOfLife care

Her research comes at a pivotal moment amid ongoing national conversations about assisted dying.

One thing is certain: whatever happens, I will post “play stupid games, win stupid prizes”, because a lot of people have played stupid games, and someone is going to win a stupid prize.
Last 48 hours before the assisted dying bill and the pro side feeling very confident. There will be a major push from both tomorrow to engage the last few genuinely undecideds. Those against the bill think there is still a chance, even in the chamber itself. Expect more abstentions too.

At the point you’re taking four years why not use that time to do it via a citizens assembly or a judicial inquiry, instead of basically having all the disadvantages of rushed legislation and all the disadvantages of a slow, considered process?

Freddie Mercury didn't go into the studio and nail the vocals for "The Show Must Go On" in one take while dying of AIDS for you to despair and give up now. Take the time you need, but then get up and get back out there.

The show must go on.

One thing I’m wondering, are we talking about nationalising the hospices? I wouldn’t be against it! But is that what hospices really definitely want?
My direct appeal to @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social
& Keir_Starmer in the light of yesterday's vote on AD.

If they sincerely care about dying people, surely now they will publicly & urgently commit to properly funding our threadbare, neglected palliative care?

Here's the thing about trans people and echo chambers: We don't have 'em. We're all experts on the anti-trans side, their arguments, their petty bigotries.

The same is not true in reverse.
“It’s important not to have this place be an echo chamber” is something that sounds correct but falls apart when you realize it actually means pretending arguments done in bad faith are genuine. It’s the “I’m just asking questions” of social media

Many fear iron overload, as 1U RBC transfusion contains ~200mg iron (primarily within RBCs). Is this a problem?
