Excited to share I’ve received pilot funding through an R25 to study substance use among youth in the juvenile legal system. The JLS is a key referral source for adolescent substance use treatment, and we need to do a better job at getting youth engaged in services. Looking forward to sharing more!

The only socially acceptable position here regarding AI is that it's total crap and will never improve.

Completely divorced from reality. But Blueskyers don't want to face reality.

I understand that many feel threatened by AI, but denialism and uninformed attacks on experts are counterproductive.
I'm not sure AI is good for humanity. I think it could very well be catastrophic.

But it's useful, for many tasks, and getting better. It's not going away, much as we might like it to.

And the longer we Blueskyers disparage it, the longer we exclude ourselves from the conversation.
My background is in software development. Absolutely, AI can replace entry-level coders today.

AI could replace weaker educators in my sons' schools.

And AI is rapidly improving.

I'd love to discuss how to regulate it and strengthen the social safety net.

Denialism blocks that conversation.

“Historically, no one lived past age 35”

"I’ve heard *so* many versions of this claim, including recently from a menopause doctor (implying menopause is not “natural” because noone lived long enough to go through it). Every time someone states this “fact,” a demographer loses a piece of their soul"

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

I barely have words.

Expected at this point but so so disappointing and unfair. We are effectively punishing some of America's best science students for telling the government they are from an underrepresented community.

One of the wilder political things in recent history is that Project 2025 publicly released a 900 page document laying out their plans to roll back 100 years of human progress and then during the campaign Republicans just said "no we're not :)" and then they won and now they're doing it all.
