On this trans day of visibility, I'd like to re-submit this piece: the most heartening responses I have gotten have been from parents of trans kids, and how much it means to see how much courage Harriette displayed. It was an honour to tell the story.

and you could remake The Sandlot today and set it in 1993 and it'd be just as nostalgic (replace Babe Ruth with, whatever, Johnny Bench? Bob Gibson?) I was playing baseball in the street in 1993. The story still holds up, and most of these stories do, until the turn of the century more or less.
Sandlot is a 1993 movie based on the summer of 1962. A movie with a similar plot released today would be about the summer of.... 1993.
