So they are changing the law to avoid previous contractual liabilities on some kind of technical argument. That is breach of natural justice material. No need for urgency either. Too important to cancel all that precious work.

Landlords got a big tax cut but women can't get pay equity

If you aren't familiar with that term it means receiving equal pay for work of equal value, no matter your gender

Landlord tax break in, pay equity cut

A few billions cut from women, rushed under urgency just before the Budget

When we said Bernie was the last possible off-ramp from the road to fascism - that wasn't exaggeration. Now it's too late. #uspol

Thing is, freedom of speech IS under threat in Britain and Germany - but it's just pro-Palestinian/ anti-genocide voices being silenced, attested etc, not right-wing extremists.

New Zealand and Australia have both faced high inflation. But only one is now in a recession.

Remember how much effort went into engaging properly with Māori and Pasifika communities during Covid?

Trials were checking similar approaches for bowel screening.

Given the epidemiology, quietly cancelling them now is a decision to kill people. 🇳🇿
Govt ends pilot programme for Māori and Pacific, sparking outrage
Pacific and Māori leaders say there is a need for community-driven health campaigns to address growing inequities in bowel cancer diagnosis and survival.

Following the New Zealand government's innovative OBEGALx measure, I am proud to announce the M-Index. Unlike the H-Index, which takes into account all papers, the M-Index only takes into account papers written by or citing me, making me the world's top scholar according to this measure

I’m mildly squinchy at the modern use of the word “aesthetic” to mean beautiful just on its own. “Oh that’s so aesthetic”.

It makes me feel like I’ve been left hanging. Aesthetically WHAT?? Pleasing? Reminiscent of cubist forms??? Pink?

Fascists are not limited by what they campaign on: they get power, and use/abuse it as hard and as thoroughly as they can.

Particularly to thwart methods we might use to remove power from them in future.

The Luxon government recognises no expertise except money. It will not listen to domain experts, it will listen to commercial operators who exploit the domain for profit. This is true for all policy areas.

NZ Gov't’s decision to cut humanities and social science research from its major funding stream, the Marsden Fund, is bad policy and scientifically illiterate.

This Fund was set up to fund #BlueSky research that led to enlightenment more than to money! 💡 #NZpol

The issue with all these Coalition govt cuts and under funding is it will take years and billions of dollars to get us back to where we were.
Our debt will just rise and rise with no chance of our kids paying it back.

Just poor politics from Luxon and a govt just lining their own pockets.
