Neoliberal paradigms of efficiency lend themselves readily to authoritarian forms of control + hasty and opaque overhauls also risk destabilizing important government functions. Read about DOGE’s gambit at the IRS in this piece I wrote with @asteephen.bsky.social.
A really thoughtful piece that contextualizes the situation after a bomb blast in New Delhi. India has yet again resorted to collective punishment as state policy. This isnt new. Every incident like this in India triggers the same reflexive and methodical cruelty towards Kashmiris.

It doesn’t take much to happen for life in Kashmir to alter overnight.

New piece up ! I explore how finance capital fuels the AI data center rush and how this reveals something crucial about how state power, tech companies, and financial institutions unite to extract wealth.

The affordability crisis is real & the far-right weaponizes it constantly. White supremacy excels at manufacturing a racialized other to scapegoat for the violence inflicted by those who hoard power and wealth at the top. Easy sell when racism and xenophobia are the very foundation of our societies.
Mamdani won campaigning with price controls for essentials.

Harris lost shying away from her own price gouging policy for food.

Trump won fantasizing about bringing prices of essentials down.

Sheinbaum won a landslide controlling prices of essential groceries.

I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

Threaten Lex with a good time. Their work at Teen Vogue was unparalleled and timely - esp given widespread journalistic malpractice on trans issues and Palestine. Their layoff is all of our loss if they can't continue doing essential journalism. Give Lex many dollars or we will curse you!
don’t threaten me with a good time 😭😭😭😭😭

@azadessa.bsky.social on SRK as an empire himself - complicit in genocide and acquiescent despite Muslim persecution in India. “The Muslim man who assured the Hindu nation that there was an Indian way to be Muslim: a non-threatening, consumer-friendly Indian patriot who always put the nation first.”

The compulsion to filter every global crisis through the question “but how is this America’s fault?” is simply American exceptionalism in reverse - this time wearing a critical theory costume. Happy Halloween - I’m honored you came dressed as America.

The homophobic formulation ‘Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve’ is rightly receiving the heat. It enacts more than homophobia though. It’s deeply embedded in white narratives of Christian single-origin story of our world. We can’t solely focus on homophobia allowing hegemony of monocultural stories.
Nancy Mace is now pushing anti-gay slogans from the 80s.

“Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve,” she said on twitter, despite having voted for gay marriage twice.

Anti-trans panic always spreads to the rest of the LGBTQ+ community.

I left America with relief, not regret. I wrote an exit interview not about Trump but about the liberal complicity that makes principled resistance impossible.

1. This week, news emerged that former trans athlete, student at Middlebury, and advocate for trans rights, Lia Smith, was found dead.

Her death was ruled a suicide.

But I argue that it's not only a suicide. Every trans suicide is a murder by those in power.

This connection is completely undeniable. Domestic American authoritarianism is really just imperialism boomeranging inward and now being weaponized against migrants, racialized populations, and queer communities within U.S. borders.
US politics must draw connection between authoritarian crackdown at home and abroad:
Escalation of repression at home
AND
Escalation by US military in Latin America on drug war pretexts and enormous bailout ($40 billion!) of MAGA client state Argentina in a new Cold War.

Sadly, this is what most white Americans have appetite for. A controlled, safe walk in the park once every month or so wont cut it. Most people who ONLY attend these large no kings protests have no skin in the game and it shows. Real solidarity requires sustained action, not performative gestures.
sums it up. headlines on crowd sizes and the feeling that maybe something happens (somewhere else) aren’t action, and getting a bunch of people to show up to a party for nothing isn’t organizing.

find your people and build something real.

Israel never wanted the ceasefire & has repeatedly violated its terms. Netanyahu told his cabinet they would never reach phase 2. The pattern is unmistakable & the international community gets away with doing nothing to ensure Israel abides by the ceasefire. Don’t stop pressuring your governments.
