don’t worry everybody, Microsoft had to lay off 9,000 people today so they could literally give 100 million more dollars in AI funding to Israel

one thing the AI uptick has shown is that people resent creatives so much for what they perceive to be "not real work." and that means creating a narrative that people are overpaid for things they don't perceive as important/valuable, but still form entire consumer identities around.

This rules for a lot of reasons, but especially because it dispels the myths that A.) old games were never political and B.) games like this are just stories, they aren't "about" anything. Should serve as a reminder to anyone writing about games why we should be close reading 'em.
OH MY FUCKING GOOOODDDDDDDDD

The reason generative AI is so popular with wannabe creatives is best illustrated by something every pro writer has encountered: getting pitched an idea by someone saying "You write it and we'll split the profits!" because they think the idea is what has value, not the writing. The opposite is true.

We know this, it's not speculative, chatbots 100% are not conscious and lack the capacity to be conscious in the same way a Kia Sorento cannot be a lunar lander. You can learn how to make a chatbot. The engineers who built the thing have told them "there's no organ for thought, it's an illusion."

Fortnite using a Gen AI voice of a dead man resulting in him saying heinous slurs is so fucking gross. Don’t even care if it was something someone signed off on, how do you not see the ethical and moral problems in such a thing? Gen AI supporters truly are soulless husks.

Just heard about SoundCloud changing its TOS to use content for AI plagiarism laundering. No permission asked, no opt-out.

What is it with techbros and an absolute disrespect for consent? If your ideas need to be smuggled and forced into our lives, how can that not give you pause? It’s alarming.

Wikipedia never forced itself into every program, app, and browser I use. It never plagiarized my books. The scale of environmental damage caused by AI computing power is a global threat. AI is corporate-controlled, which is why Wikipedia & every other quasi-public source of info - is under threat.
Some of the anti-AI stuff feels a bit like when people would say "don't use Wikipedia as a source." It's just like anything else, a piece of information that you weigh against multiple sources and your own understanding of its likely failure modes

As ai models are manipulated in this way more and more our ability to know anything will decrease extremely rapidly.

Ai is incredibly dangerous without this manipulation… this is just the wholesale destruction of our collective sensemaking and consensus reality at scale.
A new vector for spreading misinformation is simply to get your version of the story indexed by an AI chatbot where no fact check, Community Note or citation will point out that it’s a made up story.

This will be extremely difficult to combat effectively.
Russia seeds chatbots with lies. Any bad actor could game AI the same way
In their race to push out new versions with more capability, AI companies leave users vulnerable to “LLM grooming” efforts that promote bogus information.

learning that no amount of humanity on the behalf of myself or others like me can outweigh the ability for someone's mind to make up a justification and treat it as immuatable has been a valuable lesson in knowing who makes the world a nicer place to be in

I’m sorry but if your students use AI to write papers and you use AI to grade them zero school is happening. You are running together on a hamster wheel
Why even have a brain, any ideas, any ability to express them, any kind of communication with other people, any desire to solve problems or invent anything, any reason to learn, any use for your eyes or your heart, or any reason to teach or create

Block function is being removed and there's that thing with AI on Twitter too. People suggest instagram but instagram feeds all your art into AI as well.

I'm thinking about no longer posting art on Twitter. Maybe post external links to Pixiv or Picarto or something.
