Chris Judge’s “A Daily Cloud” project began in 2020, born from quiet days in the garden during lockdown. With simple lines and a touch of imagination, he turned everyday skies into playful scenes - one cloud at a time. [1/3]

Giving rivers room to move: how rethinking flood management can benefit people and nature.
Happy to see this @aunz.theconversation.com piece out.
Giving rivers room to move: how rethinking flood management can benefit people and nature
Restraining rivers through stop banks and channels transfers and heightens flood risks downstream. Allowing them to roam free limits flooding and delivers other ecological benefits.

If you ever need a reminder of why environmental protections are so important.

This is what the Cuyahoga River in Ohio looked like in the 1960s prior to the establishment of the Clean Water Act.

Wait, what the fuck?

These orgs applied for and received grants from the government, and now, because this administration chooses to pretend climate change doesn’t exist, they’re going to be accused of FRAUD? For work already done and paid for as the government directed?

This is the best map yet of what Antarctica looks like under the ice. Ice thickness shown at left; ice-stripped topography of the continent shown at right.

Let's hope we never get to see what an ice-free Antarctica looks like for real. 🧪

NEW: There’s a massive Agent Orange site in Vietnam.

USAID was funding a cleanup.

Then Trump stopped work.

Now the rainy season is about to start, and the runoff could poison hundreds of thousands.

Good thread here on what this Vanity Fair / Katherine Eban story gets wrong in promoting a lab leak theory. TLDR: The FBI implies the genetics of one virus was hidden by Chinese scientists, but it was in fact publicly available. Other scientists looked at it. Eban never gives you those facts. 🧪
A Vanity Fair paper on the origin of the pandemic details some of the reasoning behind the FBI's "Moderate confidence" assessment for a lab leak, via a retired FBI senior scientist.

It seems they were not aware of key information that rebuts their story 🤯 ▫️1/8
