Just pointing out I did not mean to offend @antoniabance.bsky.social - in fact, I was hoping to contribute constructively to an important debate with a politician who has the capacity to listen and understand.
My suggestion is that the narrative that has been spreading for so long - unchecked - has formed perceptions that are highly problematic. And I would propose to tackle that head on. /1

I understand that constituents may not grasp the situation very well and have this false impression of fairness. But asylum seekers are not on holiday. They are mostly escaping extremely shit situations most constituents through sheer luck were born never to experience.

No, charging VAT on private healthcare is not a re-run of the VAT/education debate.
It wouldn't just impact 5% of the population - everyone who sees a private dentist/optician would pay more.

I had measles as a tiny kid because I was a kid before the measles vaccine. No child should have measles now, never mind bloody die of it.
