The reason you don't give ground on trans rights - beyond the simple morality of it being wrong to do so - is because you don't give ground on rights period, and if you're willing to let it slide for one marginalized group it means everyone else is just a matter of price
First they came for the socialists etc. What if they came for some really small marginalized group of people (0.05% of population), and because we tied ourselves in knots trying to keep everyone happy, we never got into power, and never achieved anything.

You have more in common with the average Iranian citizen than you do with the people that run this country

I feel like the mainstream narrative around Trump 2.0 is that everyone is too tired to care or actively becoming more receptive to fascism. Seeing evidence counter to that is super heartening and demonstrating is worth it for that reason alone. This reactionary shift isn’t inevitable.
I hate the caricature of Americans as couch potatoes who don’t do anything about fascism. People in LA and NYC are doing the international legacy of stuff like the Battle of Cable Street proud.

kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

This Passover I’m thinking hard about the holiday’s history of resistance to tyrannical leaders, and the imperative for Jewish people to stand with all oppressed peoples of the world.

One of the defining feelings in American life, for decades now, is elites doing plainly criminal shit and nothing at all happening as a result. It is deranging in a way that virtually nothing else is. Media fixates on perceived street lawlessness but shit like this matters much more in my opinion.

I think it’s mostly foolish to care about your legacy but insofar as I have any goals for mine it’s for people not to celebrate my very public murder
