I can't describe how bad Minneapolis feels right now. My neighbors are pulling kids out of school. The public schools are offering remote learning until 2/12. We are having conversations in our alleys about how to protect ourselves. It feels like a military occupation with a blockade.
The US Department of Agriculture suspends all federal funding to Minnesota, effective immediately.

I am committed to vigorously defending Minnesota’s medical providers who do incredible work to treat and care for all Minnesotans, including our trans neighbors. I have already taken the Trump Admin to court to stop them from scapegoating the trans community. I will not hesitate to do so again.

I suspect we are getting two opinions in June: (1) Slaughter v. Trump holding that Humphrey's Executor is overruled and the only exceptions that remain are those recognized at the Founding. (2) Cook v. Trump holding that protections for the Fed are permissible because of the Bank of the US.
NEW: The Supreme Court *refuses* to let Trump fire the Fed's Lisa Cook—for now. Instead, the court agrees to hear the case in January. Cook may continue to serve in the meantime.

This is not the DC Circuit that folks are growing familiar with; it is an appeals court based on the types of cases it hears. Among other topics, it hears patent cases and, relevant here, appeals from the Court of International Trade.

Tom Lehrer died today. He was one of the great comedians our culture ever produced. Without Tom, there's no Weird Al, probably no that entire branch of comedy.

He went alone and beat the odds.

law professors have been unable to understand why people are actually concerned about this case. it’s not about nationwide injunctions per se, it’s about a court that waited until the issue hurt the GOP, and then intervened on behalf of one of the most egregious constitutional violations we’ve seen
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson called yesterday's decision about nationwide injunctions "an existential threat to the rule of law."

She's mistaken.

A rare spot of good news: The Minnesota Supreme Court rejects Republican representatives’ unconstitutional effort to establish a quorum in the House. So Republicans can’t seize control of the chamber as they’d intended, and will have to enter a power-sharing agreement with Democrats.
VERY good news for MN House Dems: The state Supreme Court just ruled that 68 members are needed for a quorum. The GOP had tried to elect a speaker with just 67. Democrats have insisted on a return to the power-sharing deal the parties had been working on.
