Maccabi TLV fans are at risk of antisemitic attacks by antisemites (as they were in Amsterdam), and Muslims are at risk of anti-Muslim attacks by some Maccabi TLV fans (as they were in Amsterdam)

Why do so many struggle to hold multiple facts at once? I feel like I’m losing my mind

This is getting ridiculous now. Given demographics, this number is soon going to go down to - what - 20% or lower. What the hell does the UK state do then, when its main strategy is near-universally rejected?

Obvious point this, but people need to stop believing what they are told by Farage, GB News, and the general declinist and alarmist media narrative and start paying attention to what is really going on regarding crime in this country.

The BBC and mainstream media have a duty to get the truth out.

The grid battery storage line looks small on this plot, but no other line grew by a larger percentage. Batteries are coming to the grid, as we speak.
Fascinating! I foresee that battery storage will strongly increase (which combined with strong battery price decreases means ~100x more batteries in the coming 10 years) and this will support solar+wind and reduce grid investments.

Photo of the Day.

Israel threatened reprisals if the press filmed Gaza from above during airdrops.

This is why. A scene of destroyed & burnt out buildings in what is left of Gaza City, the pre-war home to 800,000 people.

Credit to Post photographer Heidi Levine who defied the ban & took this.

there is a certain demographic that moved out of london to the home counties in the 80's / 90's, and haven't been back to london since retirement who lap up the stories of London as a foreign country. similar with Manchester, Glasgow etc.
I've lived in London for 30 years.

It's safer, cleaner, more at ease with itself by far now than it was when I came here and the only people who believe otherwise have either never set foot in the place or have a massive chaos agenda.

i see the comments about enterprise being smothered by regulation a lot but without detail.

the major issues effecting SME growth are not regulations and bureaucracy(although owner/managers do hate them & whinge a lot) but access to fairly priced long term finance mostly due to bank policies 1/
This note by the Labour Growth Group is good on the politics of growth and stagnation imo. But I worry it just isn't engaging seriously with the question of why economic growth slowed down.

Here are their "five giants" holding back the UK economy...

there may be some truth in this, but given thames water especially have been flirting with bankruptcy how much money would really be needed IF the private companies were forced to actually meet their obligations?
I’m going to take a wild guess that the answer is “because there’s no money”
Why isn’t Labour nationalising water?

The Government is promising a “revolution”. But campaigners don’t believe them.

that seems a fairly common view point - young will bias progressive but split between the various parties, and turn-out will continue to be lower so the net impact will be relatively minor - probably 'margin of error' stuff
Based on the 18-24 age range, Labour may pick up some votes from reducing voter age, but a Green/Lib Dem coalition gains more, also bolstered by exodus of supporters from Labour at the moment. Personally, I don't think there'll be enough engagement from 16/17 year olds to massively influence though.

i've just perused the headlines but i think giving 16-17's the vote is the more significant one. give politicians an incentive to engage with schools / colleges and you'll get more involvement in politics moving forward

Harsh but fair. all PM's, and especially labour ones, are held to account by the press to ridiculous standards. It's also true media attacks have been relentless and often unrelated to Starmers actions, BUT as PM you're in a unique position to control the narrative and that has just not been done..

A HISTORIC MILESTONE: For the first time, solar power generated more electricity globally than nuclear, making it the world’s 4th largest power source.

In just 5 years, solar output nearly tripled—from 79 TWh (Apr 2020) to 233 TWh (Apr 2025). The energy transition is speeding up.

One sign that we are living under an authoritarian regime is that a lot of people are acting like they are living under an authoritarian regime.
The fear among academics and lawyers now talking on the record on just about any topic that involves the federal government or the White House is really extraordinary and worrisome, and getting worse, it seems to me, every week. Dissent by an establishment figures becoming verboten in the US
