There is negative net migration from the EU - after the UK left the EU, ended free movement, and liberalised immigration from outside the EU.

(that's not to say that regulations & bureaucracy couldn't / shouldn't be improved to simplify things, but unless you want open season on tax fraud, employment abuse, environmental protections etc then it's difficult to see what regulation could be removed)

the eye-opener for me was looking at how German SME companies fund expansion with local banks who take minority stakes as collateral. Everyone involved has incentives to make the business as successful as possible, banks accept some failures as the cost of investment in high risk / return options

here's a different perspective. if your 18th birthday is just after a GE then you probably wont get a vote until you're ~22. move the starting point to 16 and then everyone gets their first vote by 20. seems much fairer to me

one point often missed from the current rules is that if your 18th falls just after a GE, you'll be ~ 22 when you first have an opportunity to vote. a baseline of 16 would mean everyone would get a GE vote by the age of 20. seems much fairer to me

However, there's also the fact that we're a long way from the next GE. Although some narratives stick, the 'get the bad stuff done early' philosophy & lack of alternatives means he's still probably favourite to win the next election, especially as Reform / LD's continue to cannibalise the Tory's
