okay the WaPo editorial board has been an abject disaster since it was Bezosified but a literal “are we the baddies” letter is a fantastic bit, full marks for this one

This entire grift relies on convincing people that they don't know how to do the things they have always known how to do, and ironically, if it works, we will, in a very short amount of time, forget how to do all the things we have always known how to do.

It's weird to not only have lived through an information revolution but also now living through its undoing, all within less than a generation.
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

This story is extraordinary even by 2025 standards. Marco Rubio, the nation's top diplomat, made a deal with Bukele and agreed to renege on informant agreements in a years-long DOJ investigation into MS-13, totally undercutting credibility of such agreements.

Rubio promised to betray U.S. informants to get Trump’s El Salvador prison deal
To secure U.S. access to President Nayib Bukele’s notorious CECOT prison, Rubio agreed to turn over several MS-13 leaders central to a long-running Justice Department investigation.

But what it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop
Children, what's that sound?
Everybody look, what's going down? 🎶

June was revised down from 147k to 14k, May was revised down to 19k. So we've created just 106k jobs since April, compared to over 100k in each of the first four months of the year. That's a really big revision!

It was the single most frequent question we received, so a team of reporters put together an overview.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Democrats could literally never fall in line as hard as “moderate” Republicans do. Rs will fall in line even if they know their bill will harm Americans just so they aren’t out of the group
Another rather wild statement from Murkowski — who provides no explanations as to why she accepted the premise of the deadline if she found it so preposterous. She could have just said I'm a firm no until we figure this stuff out in a month!
