Interested in all sorts.
Drove to the fish ‘n’ chip shop last night. It was raining heavily and I had the diabolical inconvenience of parking about 45 seconds walk away.

The chippie is on an awkward corner with double yellow lines for safe sight lines, but as very often these had been parked on…

it’s funny how when people who own big houses are alive they had nothing to do with its value, but when they die their kids shouldn’t have to pay any inheritance tax because they worked VERY hard all their lives for it

“What about this poor old woman who is blind, deaf, in a wheelchair and survives on £30 a week, but lives in a £15 million manor she doesn’t want to sell because it was left to her by her late husband, who died while saving a group of orphans from being sold into slavery? What about HER, Rachel??”

I am so utterly over this type of political reporting. It belongs in the bin. Literally, focus on the substance!! Our lives depend on understanding the substance, not the gossip/surface.

Big news, income tax is being charged this year.

(It has to be renewed each year or it ceases to apply. Because it's a temporary tax, introduced to fund the Napoleonic wars)

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

If I’m understanding this correctly, X is owned by a white nationalist who pays poor people of color in developing countries to pretend to be working class white Americans to scare other white Americans into being afraid poor people of color from developing countries are going to ruin America?

England’s batsmen play the same role in the England fans’ desire to win The Ashes as does Trump’s America in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Being dismembered with a bone saw because you dared to criticize an authoritarian regime is - and hear me out - considerably worse than being embarrassed because another reporter dared to ask you about it.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

Tl;dr - if Labour want to combat racism, they should say racism is wrong, over and over, and act on that belief (e.g. by leaving certain social media sites owned by racists). That would do more to promote anti-racist norms, and protect the interests of Britain's minorities than immigration controls.

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

This is what is so frustrating- this is an excellent sensible policy, that I’d expect from a Labour government. But the immigration policies and announcements are so horrific I can’t support them or vote for them in the future.
