No time for love Dr Jones
American weakness, trump style
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

A big portion of Trump's continuing appeal to so many men is his absolute contempt for women

This was apparent back in 2015, & i believe it's a huge reason as to why he beat both Hillary & Kamala - far too many American men share some level of this contempt
I’m not going to pretend it’s easy to say something in the moment when you witness the president do this and you’re aboard Air Force One with all the uniformed officers and secret service and fancy wood accents, but this is really an instance where you should. people.com/donald-trump...

If we neither believe nor stand for anything, then anyone can join!

It's really not a shock as to why the Democratic party loses
Raskin: We are a big tent. We must be a huge, vast tent. I say this is a party that’s got room for Marjorie Taylor Greene if she wants to come over.

Dersh has looked & sounded like current Dersh for at least the last 40 years, so the idea Giuffre could have sex with him & have 'mistaken identity' is beyond the absurd.

Very clear at this point what he is.
To be very clear, Virginia Giuffre was made to say she mistakenly identified Alan Dershowitz as one of the people who sexually abused her. Here is the proof from this week's Epstein files dropped by the House Oversight Committee.

I've worked in the food industry for years & I 100% believe this product is a version of this.

Every brand tries to figure out what to do with the waste they generate at their plants. Worst case is they either pay to get rid of it or sell to hog feed for pennies. Using it for a new product is huge
This screams “HEY EVERYONE! Get excited for eating the gunk and dust we scooped off the gears of the machinery!”

I don't think young people understand how absolutely wild the wall-to-wall coverage was on Lewinsky.

Literally dominated the news cycle for like 2 years straight
Any other time, any other President, and "the dude was in a global conspiracy to fuck them kids" would have been 24/7 coverage. Even Dubya.

I remember the fucking Lewinsky coverage. Our media have become craven hacks carrying water for rich pedophiles and I feel insane typing that but there it is.

BREAKING: At Pope Leo XIV’s urging, U.S. Catholic bishops just delivered the strongest rebuke of a sitting president in Church history — condemning Trump-Vance raids as “inhumane” and “dehumanizing” in a 216–5 vote.
NEW: At Pope Leo’s Urging, Bishops Issue Historic Rebuke of Trump’s Raids
Nearly all U.S. Catholic bishops united in Baltimore to denounce the Trump administration’s “inhumane” deportation campaign — a near-unanimous, unprecedented moral stand against a sitting president.

Mike Johnson: "That's the reason the inflation is up, the cost of living is up so high -- because of the policies of the previous administration. Now, we're working to root those policies out and implement our own, but it takes a little time."

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

This deal to reopen the government is fucking disgraceful.

Tens of millions will lose their healthcare. Trump will be emboldened.

This is exactly what’s wrong with Democratic Party leadership and why we need more people in Congress who will actually hold the line.

I'm single. No kids, no claims, no pre-existing conditions. The cataclysmic leap from paying $50 a month to $1,228.28 a month is a level of devastation the depth of which I'm struggling to articulate. I wasn't going to be able to afford when I thought it was going up to $350 a month. And now...😵
I thought my new health insurance premium was going to be $350 per month until I got this letter informing me that it would be $1,228.28 PER MONTH. I CURRENTLY PAY $50. Is my math mathing? Is that.... a 2,356.42% increase?

2256.42%????

TWO THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED FIFTY SIX POINT FORTY TWO PERCENT😩

I really think the people arguing with Will on these things should be abundantly clear on when, specifically, America (or any society!) met the conditions to be called "good" that they're implying

So much of it is this false past utopia bullshit
yeah I actually think the development of a staggering array of new medical procedures and treatments that are vastly more effective than what was available even a decade or two ago is a significant component of material prosperity that greatly improves quality of life, not just a joke

It’s insane. In 1960 people spent 10% of their annual income on clothing - and despite that, only purchased about 20 items.

Today, we spend 2% of our annual income on clothing, and purchase an average of about 70 items per year.

But Bluesky leftists are convinced this means we’re getting POORER
Clothing has become so cheap people literally cannot conceptualize it as a major household expense

Lol that'd be a complete shut down of air travel DURING THE HOLIDAYS

May be the thing that drives his approval rating down into the single digits
GOP SEN. JOHN KENNEDY: It may be 2026 when we'll come out of the shutdown.

REPORTERS: 😳

KENNEDY: I'm not kidding, you guys. I mean, you see what I see. Okay? This shutdown is going to last a long time. What's going to get us out of it?

The only reason we have 40 hrs/wk as the standard is b/c Unions fought & bled for it. The Capitalist class did not gift it.

If AI did anything near 'optimization', rest assured they'd use it to shrink the workforce & compress more responsibilities onto the remaining workers
Jamie Dimon thinks AI will optimize our work schedules within our lifetime. trib.al/lPIHJhh

Let's pretend for a minute that LLMs somehow evolve to become what all these tech dorks imagine they are

The first thing - absolute first - that would happen as a society is a mass layoff of white collar workers as executives try to capture more revenue for themselves
I’m going to regret asking this, but… what mechanism are people proposing whereby AI will “end scarcity”?

This feels like literal underpants gnomes thinking, and as I never tire of pointing out, it’s being driven by a lot of the same actual people
AI could end scarcity, end humanity - or boost trend growth by 0.2 percentage points
