Today’s fun tax tip…

(It’s a similarly daft situation that railways pay tax on fuel/energy but airlines don’t pay any tax on their aviation fuel, a huge hidden subsidy)

In 2021, the Gov warned we “could lose control of our climate for good” beyond 1.5°C.

Now, the CCC says “prepare for 2°C by 2050”

This huge shift in just 4 years calls for a new plan.

MPs can only make sound decisions to protect us if they’re briefed.

Is your MP attending?

Fantastic resource from @thierryaaron.bsky.social
I've finally got around to curating a selection of films about the #climate crisis 🎥

There's lot of mediocre climate films out there, but for me these stand out head & shoulders above the rest 🎞️

They make excellent resources for classrooms, lecture halls, or community cinema's 🎬

Hello. I wrote a nice long essay about AI and this very strange moment where we're constantly told we're living in the dawn of a strange new future but the only thing that's actually clear is that everyone feels pretty unmoored and uncertain. I hope you'll read it

Including Erin today, there have been 42 hurricanes that have reached Category 5 in the Atlantic since records began in 1851.

11 of those have happened in the past 10 years.

Climate change is increasing the maximum strength of hurricanes — so stronger storms now happen more often.

Well worth a read.

We need to fight for genuine democratic structures at scale, wealth taxes - and, I'd argue, a revolution in media to support narratives which reflect our true egalitarian nature back at us.

Fascinating. Particularly stark is the gap between people's perception that climate change won't impact them - but it will impact future generations.

I hear this anecdotally - people are worried but see impact as 'not in my lifetime'.
