It's an illegal, evil coup, which it seems like Trump probably thinks he's doing, on some level, to benefit the US oil industry.

But the long-running trend in Trump 2.0 is that he consistently does things "for" the industry that they really, really hating bc he can't grasp basic market dynamics

The US produces >13 mn barrels of oil per day. Venezuela produces <1 million bpd

There's a global oil glut i.e. lower prices. That's bad for US producers, who need higher prices to break even. Hard to imagine they're eager to make big new investments in an unstable place w/ decrepit infrastructure

You know, fuck climate and fuck carbon. The fact that wars and lots of blood for oil are somehow an acceptable price to pay for energy has never ever been ok. This alone is more than enough reason to phase out fossil fuels asap.

Blows my mind that some of the same journalists who see Trump as a want-to-be dictator at home are earnestly discussing the "challenges" for this same man to "bring democracy" to a country it just illegal invaded. Please grow up.

The sooner the world sheds its addiction to fossil fuels, the better. The alternatives are available, plentiful and cheaper.

I'm just an economist but what kind of regime change strategy is this where US kidnaps the president but leaves the other power structures of Madurismo intact?
Trump just announces the US will be running Venezuela now, until the can do a "safe, proper, and judicious" transfer of power. Announcing an occupation before you've occupied a country is a new one.

At 7:10 or so the winner of the 2025 Nobel peace prize praises Tr*mp & condones extralegal killings in service of regime change. At 14:15 she tells Biz Forum that Venezuela will be the “energy hub of the Americas,” & the “new global frontier of innovation and wealth creation.”
If you want to know what the plan is, traitorous stooge Machado told the America Business Forum back in November: privatizing oil to the tune of $1.7 trillion. She said the same thing at a Saudi forum. It’s remarkable how little pretense there is. youtu.be/l2J2JtO8R9Q?...
