We are committed to the principle of least privilege.

In light of the recent information and discussion, once the Bluesky documentation and implementation is complete for OAuth permissions, we will change to the appropriate least permissive set of permissions.

Stay tuned.

Yeah, the people who keep complaining & being so holier-than-thou about the mod / t&s situation here would not have survived the golden age of IRC in the mid 90s, and it really shows. We would've chewed you up in a matter of hours! Y'all wouldn't even be able to hang in our Star Trek rpg chat!

oauth scopes are “available” now, but i’m following their guidance:

“We do not recommend shipping updates to popular apps until the ‘permission set’ functionality is complete, and final specifications for the auth scopes system are published.”

Getting some questions about Streamplace's login page, so wanted to do a quick clarification.

"Streamplace, why do you ask for so many permissions on my Bluesky account?"

Current guidance from Bluesky is that these are the scopes that should be requested by all production applications. That's it.

interesting — clearsky now requires you to login to see some of its data… i think this is a good move in lieu of the service shutting down entirely (i believe clearsky and listifications are net-negatives for the community) h/t @baileytownsend.dev

I think it's fine for bluesky to temporarily or permanently ban people for speech that is suggestive or encouraging of bodily harm to others, regardless of their or your political affiliation.

There's nothing a T&S team can do to "earn trust", because every single decision you make, even if it's 100% consistent, will always have one party upset with the outcome and incentivized to present their case to the court of public opinion in as distorted/favorable-to-them light as possible!

It's the core problem of Trust and Safety as an industry: because we exist, the average user of a site will think that social friction and petty slapfights are the biggest problems any site has to deal with. Maybe with a vague sense of a small subset of the Really Bad Stuff, if they think hard.

Although many people are saying it, I do not believe our current president sucked off former president Bill Clinton on camera. I have not seen sufficient evidence that our current president gave the former president a blowie in a way that was memorialized in a photo. That's not something I believe.

I feel like this is an important piece of context people who are now calling for bluesky to adopt a more minimal moderation policy may be missing.

Bluesky wanted to do this! They were dragged away from this model because it DID NOT WORK.
I looked at your account creation date and it explained a lot, actually! This is exactly the model Bluesky was hoping at first to use. They abandoned the idea that they could delegate enforcement to that extent *well* before you joined, because it was, to put it charitably, a fucking shitshow.
