‘Nowhere safe’: In southern Gaza, a scramble in vain to outrun the war

The Senate just passed a reckless amendment to ban mask mandates on public transportation for 2024.

Shamefully, 10 Democrats voted in favor of a ban:
Baldwin (D-WI)
Bennet (D-CO)
Brown (D-OH)
Kaine (D-VA)
Kelly (D-AZ)
Klobuchar (D-MN)
Manchin (D-WV)
Rosen (D-NV)
Shaheen (D-NH)
Tester (D-MT)

Arnesa Buljušmić-Kustura (@Rrrrnessa on X), a genocide researcher and survivor of the Bosnian genocide just had a job offer declined (after rounds of interviews) because of her anti-genocide, pro-Palestinian pov and outspoken advocacy on social media.
Unconscionable.

By now, I'm guessing most have already seen the news on our new project, Nightshade. Lots of artists sharing it, but here's the article from MIT Technology Review (tyvm to the wonderful Melissa Heikkila). This is a thread explaining Nightshade & its goals www.technologyreview.com/2023/10/23/1...
This new data poisoning tool lets artists fight back against generative AI
The tool, called Nightshade, messes up training data in ways that could cause serious damage to image-generating AI models.

You need to research the Democrat candidates. A certain number flip parties after an election, but how they do fundraisers and their supporters may give advance clues. NC has some “fake” Dems running for school board unfortunately.

"OK, I want to support the reasonable candidates for school board/other key local races in my area. How do I know who to vote for?"

A thread. (I have written a voter's guide for ... idk, 15 years now? for down-ballot candidates in my area. I've done this a lot.)
4. Call your legislative reps. Urge them to take a stand against book banning and support relevant legislation.

5. SUPPORT REASONABLE CANDIDATES. You can do this with money, signs, four knocking, phone banking, and other volunteer tasks. It matters. We all need skin in the game.

The Royal Navy story is trending, and two things can be true:

1. The British Navy has traditions that are antiquated and racist and their solution is ridiculous,

2. The Chinese government is an intelligence threat.

No real words to share, just deep pain and resonance.
The Tangled Grief of Israel’s Anti-Occupation Activists
Israelis who advocate for Palestinian rights are simultaneously absorbing two streams of traumatic news: the brutality and extent of Hamas’s attacks and the bombardment and siege of Gaza.

Israel is punishing 2.3 million people, half of whom are children, for crimes committed by Hamas.

Defending human rights of Palestinians does not mean we are pro-Hamas.

"Free Palestine" means stop caging 2.3 million Palestinians in the world's largest open air prison, half of whom are children.

Yes! I also think everyone who can afford it should have an earmarked mutual aid budget formed into their lives like a bill. could be several small re-occurring monthly donations or a specific reserved amount for crowdfunds as they come up each month in yr feed. An anarchist’s tithe, if you will.
I think that everyone should put a little time each day to do some form of activism. Make it part of your routine. Get up and sign some petitions, write your congress folks, or donate some money. A lot of little actions can really add up!
