Sometimes the only thing that makes sense is that they are actively threatening the lives of the children of anyone who might tell the truth about them. Like "We have snipers watching your kids. If you say anything else, we'll order them to shoot." That would be better than that they're all evil.

100% and for me, I have to remember not to get into debates with people who think they know all the facts, when it's clear they do not have enough the information or context to make a cogent argument. They are often just following a crowd - like peer pressure. Drives me nuts, it's a waste of time.
The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.
