Linkedin can be useful.

For networking.

And for in-the-weeds discussions on important but niche topics.

But there is one thing I struggle with.

An insidious property that needs to be held in check.

And that is very long posts of seemingly profound sentences, each separated by an empty line.

Wrapped up the last day of #APPAM2025 with a hat trick of sessions on place-based inequalities and policy impact:
(1) geography of housing and job access;
(2) food and transportation security;
(3) natural hazard risk management.

Some things that stood out to me:

Inspiring and insightful keynote by #APPAM2025 President Ingrid Gould Ellen on importance of and opportunities for policy research at local and state government levels.

I'm very lucky that #APPAM2025 is happening in my backyard this year.

Welcome to Seattle to all conference attendees! Safe travels if you are still en route! And if you are presenting, break a leg!

If you live in Seattle, check to make sure your vote was counted. This election is ridiculously close, so every vote really matters!
This race could very easily be decided by challenged ballots. Use this link to track your ballot, and remind your friends and family to do the same: info.kingcounty.gov/kcelections/...

Yesterday, when Bovino announced ICE would be returning to Little Village today, some of us donated and fundraised to buy out street vendors in the neighborhood. This morning, volunteers hit the streets at 6:30 am, looking for vendors to buy out. Tamales make an excellent breakfast.

it's not that i ever doubted that being a barista was a skilled position, but my year-long effort to try to produce a half-decent latte at home has convinced me that a good barista is easily more skilled than virtually every c-suite executive on the planet

You ever think about how there was only 1 to 2 months between the actual wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and Gordon Lightfoot recording his song.

And how weird and slightly deranged it would be if someone had dropped a banger about a contemporary disaster on its heels.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

I'll get back to "party unity" as soon as the Senate Minority Leader tells us if he voted for the Democratic party nominee for mayor of his city.

I'm tired of party unity only ever running one way.

Calling all elders "aunt/uncle" is considered good manners in South Asian cultures, so when I heard about this *scandal* I assumed he called a random woman in his community "aunt". Turns out it was actually a relative, his father's cousin, which is like an aunt once removed or whatever right???
i cannot believe that “mamdani calls a close adult relative an ‘aunt’ even if they are not literally their parent’s sister” is what counts as a “scandal” these days

The costs of America’s wasteful transportation and land use systems (and its failure to invest in rail) are becoming more evident:
- Cars are more expensive than ever
- Cities struggling with debt
- Some state DOTs are reducing plans to expand highways
- The housing affordability crisis
