We definitely need more people working on these questions. If you are interested in applied work, I would definitely recommend looking into public policy as well. Happy to share resources if that would be helpful.

Best of luck on your future endeavors!

I've watched Succession a dozen times and still went "who???" I still don't know who she is and I guess I'm ok with that.

We also need to study how place-based inequalities are changing. COVID-19,remote work, suburbanization of poverty, AI and other tech altering job opportunities, natural disasters and climate change - these are just some of the massive shifts that have and will continue to alter our landscapes.

What we can't afford to do is ignore place-based inequalities. They are deeply entrenched, esp in the US where the legacy of redlining and highway expansion have carved our cities into what they are today. We have to accept this reality and device policies to address the problems as they are.

Researchers are using innovative ways to tackle data and measurement challenges. This often involves cross walking and merging multiple data sources, incl public and private partnerships.

However, geography and how humans navigate space is so complicated, so perfection can't be the goal here.

Attending a workshop titled: How Researchers Can Collaborate with Practitioners to Build Evidence that Matters.

Panel members echo the importance of relationships, trust building, adaptability, and frequent check ins, and sharing findings along the way.

Would also love session recommendations!

A bit about me: I am a sociologist by training, interested broadly in inequality and research methods, and currently working in transportation and transit space.

Let me know what #APPAM2025 sessions I should check out 👀
