I found something fascinating in Paul Stillwell's biography of Willis Lee. As part of his training, Lee had a training cruise on Farragut's Civil War flagship, Hartford.
Some of his classmates had the opportunity to do a training cruise on Dewey's flagship Olympia.

For the Southern Festival of Books, I am going to be the host for Cheryl McKissack Daniel's panel. She is the CEO of McKissack & McKissack, the oldest & most prominent Black architectural firm in the nation (they did the Smithsonian) that got its start right outside of Nashville! I'm so excited.
