I found something fascinating in Paul Stillwell's biography of Willis Lee. As part of his training, Lee had a training cruise on Farragut's Civil War flagship, Hartford.

Some of his classmates had the opportunity to do a training cruise on Dewey's flagship Olympia.

I loved East of Eden, so when I heard about this, I had to pick it up.

One day it struck me that the Persian Empire fought the ancient Greeks, Rome, and Byzantine Empire - that's an extensive run - so I'm looking to learn more about the early Persian Empire.

I have limited knowledge of Longstreet's Knoxville campaign, so I'm appreciating having Earl Hess as my guide.

As an added bonus, I purchased this book from a museum bookstore, so helping to support a good cause.

As an added bonus, it was signed by the author.

In reading about the naval battles around Guadalcanal, certain ships stood out for me, such as the Sweet P and USS Atlanta.

I'm enjoying this history of the Atlanta.

I'll take this opportunity to mix 2 conversations...
Eig told a story about his King bio. He said authors don't often have control over covers, but he pushed for a closeup of King instead of King at a distance.

I'm enjoying this well written memoir of an A-20 Havoc pilot from the SW Pacific Theater.

I'm looking to read more about economic mobilization as part of WW2/SWW. Maury Klein's book is on my list, but starting here.

Dunn argues there were 3 100 day periods in the FDR presidency that jumpstarted key initiatives - including one for military mobilization.

I've been curious to check out one of the books in the Decisions series for the American Civil War. I thought I'd start with a campaign I'm fairly familiar with.

One of the USN ships I grew to appreciate reading about the naval battles around Guadalcanal is the USS Atlanta.

Amazon has David Winkler's ship history of the Atlanta on pretty big sale currently.

I'm 40 pages in and enjoying it so far.

I really appreciated an interview Sandra Day O'Connor (1st female US Supreme Court Justice) a number of years back and picked up O'Connor's memoir on the ranch where she grew up.
Pretty fascinating memoir about ranch life in the American SW in the early 20th century.

I don't, but I took a peek at Chad Williams book on W.E.B. Du Bois and WW1, and it's featured pretty prominently in the index. A very quick read of it - it appears Du Bois wanted an authoritative history of black soldiers in WW1, and there was a tussle over who should write it.

After visiting LST-325 in Evansville, I've been reading up a bit more on this class of ship. I've started on this book which was one of the recommendations.
